    One hit wonders

If this thread has been done in the past, i cant find it, but if it has, dumpo it.

Im just listening to "Wuthering Heights" by Kate Bush. What a song.

Any other classic one hit wonders out there, apart from the really obvious like the Clash etc.
If at first you don't succeed, redefine success.

Deep Blue Something - Breakfast at Tiffanys
The Rembrandts - I'll be there for you (Friends theme)
Dee-Lite - Groove is in the heart (one of the bst pop songs ever)
New Radicals - You get what you give (although Glen whatshisname has writtena few hits for others)
    Six - there's a whole lotta lovin'

You'll soon be adding Gary Jules - Mad World to the list, the album is terrible

The Boo Radley's were around for years before that, and we a reasonably successful indie band before and after that song.... That song ruined them, in that they never produced such a poppy song again to get the airplay needed for a number one...

Suppose it depends how you classify one hit wonders - alot of the bands you listed 12th Man only had one big crossover hit, but were around for years in their genre.

btw Conor, The Farm also had a hit with a cover of "Don't You Want Me"

yeah macy im aware of that as i am/was a fan of the bands myself but as far as the general public are concerned they would be seen as one hit wonders.

the record /cd buyers are not interested in backrounds of the bands etc they just see a hit as a hit
.take" echo and the bunnymen" for instance/ brilliant band with about 20 albums.
ask people to name a song by them and they would probably say "killing moon"(a hit single) and not have a breeze about the previous 10 albums the band released.

The Charlatans suffered that fate too, with "The only one I know"...

There's plenty of Indie bands that have had one crossover - and for a lot of that I blame Chris Evans....

you would probably struggle for a better example of the harsh world of the "hit single" scene that the band above.bear in mind
that james are still gigging today but in the minds of the general public they were one hit wonders.

jesus jones with "right hear right now".the mission with "tower of strength" and xtc with "making plans for nigel" are other examples of the same thing

i think a one hit wonder is someone who lives off one tunes for their whole life, appearing on tv again and again to sing and no matter how they try to push their other songs on one wants to hear them....peter andre, mysterious girl is a prime example of that
