    GAA attendance

With all the hype over the sellout crowds at big games it was interesting to see the Railway Cup Semi final on saturday at Limerick's Gaelic Grounds drew a paying attendance of 16 people. This was Munster v Connaught. If the Munster rugby team held a training session in outer Mongolia they'd ahve more thna 16 fans travelling to it.

I know the terms pot and kettle will come to mind when you see the attendances for football at the Pike field but we've never got a crowd that low.

Saturday was a nice dry day and also saw the first major game in a revamped stadium

The stat was confirmed by a GAA official who was questioned by a fan on sunday who had thought the attendance was about 20 people.

Probably hoping that the Pope can draw on some Divine intervention to revive the competition.

They are trying to boost it up again .... they are meant to be putting in some serious money (obviously within reason) into it aswell.

Have the final in Rome was one of the first changes they are having to try and get it going.

    Sounds positive.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

They are going to put a big effort in to revive it. The main thing is not to play it at this time of year, I think. I actually know 1 of those people who payed in!, and he said the Munster players just didn't care. Connaught (Galway really) were up for it, but the Cork and Tipp players especially were there in body only. A rest is what they want, not more games and travelling. Play it the weekend after the club finals and there may be interest.

I reckon it's a case of overkill. The GAA are running too many competitions and something has to give. I was at the Kilmacud-Bridgets game in Parnell Park on Sunday and there was approximately 10-12,000 at it, which aint bad for a county final. I'm sure similar crowds attended or will attend county finals around the country. The second International Rules test last year pulled in not far off 75,000 to Croker. I think it'd be a minor miracle to get big crowds at the Railway Cup. It's probably about time it was let wither away gracefully.
Maybe you should put her on a leash, agent-man.

Ya the international rules game in Perth last Friday got 5,000 more spectators than the England V South Africa rugby match a week before in the same stadium. Obviously this proves that rugby is Sh1te.

The railway cup is just on at a time of year that nobody cares. John Gardiner and Setanta were selected but had U-21 county finals with their club this weekend. Ulster and Connaught usually treat it fairl seriously as they like to show that they're good. Putting the final in rome might encourage players to put a bit more effort in if they know they've a trip to italy for the final but it won't help the crowd.
The glass isn't half full or half empty it's just too damn big!

    Nice one Sparky
Whatever it was I am sure it was better than my plan to get out of this by pretending to be mad. I mean, who would have noticed another madman around here?
