I hate sky coverage of football. However, they do put together a package that seems to appeal to the masses so I agree it would be a good thing.
I think it's unlikely though.
after watching sky sports coverage of the rovers game last night which I thought was very proffesional and well researched coverage by the sky sports on shamrock rovers and the league of ireland. I am starting to think that if sky sports started covering our league in the summer months when their season is finished, it would do wonders for the league. It would be real proffesional coverage and would fill a gap for sky sports. I do think it may be time that the irish sky tv customer got something back from sky tv, and they started to reinvest some of that money back into ireland.
I know the chances are slim to none, but i think it would be just what the league needs to get sponsorships and interest into the league.
It's just a job. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. I beat people up.

We should also get ESPN to show it in the USA
Pop quiz, hot shots;
Who were the first LOI team to be shown live on Sky Sports?

SKY do our games up North (only 5 a season mind you) but their coverage is usually well researched
when u watch LOI games on RTE its so dull and boring and slow and boring. there's no imagination in that station and they wouldnt have a clue how to advertise the games properly. If sky started showing games it would be great but why would they.
Tommy Smith who is the main football co-commentator for ESPN has suggested ESPN should look into broadcasting a LOI highlights show worldwide. Do not underestimate the worldwide public appeal for competitve football especially during the summer months . It would bring some serious money into the LOI and would further enhance the leagues profile.
Shels wasnt it
As mentioned before the northern fa organised that sky show 5 of their games, so why can't the FAI do the same
Was it Derry when they played Celtic?
It was Derry in the 1997 "Carlsberg" tournament. The other teams were Celtic, Newcastle and PSV
The following year the teams involved were Pats, Liverpool, Leeds and Lazio

That Derry game was on RTÉ as well. I think Jim Crawford scored for Newcastle against Derry in the final.
A leading authority on League of Ireland football since 2003. You're probably wrong.
Sky are great marketeers, the fact that there "are only 38 days to go before the PL season starts" is a headline for them rather than a mere fact, shows that they can market nothing, and make nothing look good.Originally Posted by Duggie
RTE's coverage of our league is appalling by comparison. 5 minutes pre-match build-up, 5 minutes post-match round up, and only 5 of the 11 league games shown in highlights every weekend. The bare minimum from the state broadcaster. Setanta make a good attempt at it, but are let down by crap pundits, and very boring commentators. Still, when they lose the bohs coverage obsession, they are the best LOI network around at the moment.

ya usually peter collins by the side of the pitch freezing like a snow man interviewing richo or someone. pathetic.
Not normally a big Sky Sports fan but I thought the coverage of the game last night was very professional, even down to the commentators attending another game previous to it just to get used to the LOI a little bit.
Its really not that complicated!!!
That's how we have MNS.
They lost 3-2 to Liverpool in Lansdowne. Don't remember how they did in the 3rd/4th place play off. Think they went 1-0 up too. Was it Hawkins? Stole in through the middle unmarked and tapped home a set piece. Stunned Lansdowne into silence. Danny Murphy scored a cracker, Patrik Berger and Karl Heinz Riedle also scored. Think Pat's scored last, and it was 3-2 at half time.
Edit - here we go. Lost 4-1 to Lazio.

It was an excellent program on sky..I was gobsmacked to hear that Frank Stapleton was a big shamrock rovers fan when he was growing up.. their piece on the history of the club was exceptional. That was the first time ever I saw clips of Dermot Morgan singing in a pub to fundraise to keep Milltown open. The clips from their last league winning season in 1994 I have never seen on rte. The sooner they come into the league of ireland bidding the better it will be for Irish football...
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?
