Charlie Cahill, was Chairman of the Leinster Senior League for many many years. RIP.
Always look on the bright side of life
Yes, nowadays they all get excited by a few water charge protests. The 1970s/80s was the era of protests albeit I was a counter-revolutionary. I remember when I was a student at TCD one of my classmates said to me "The trouble with you, Kennedy, is that you don't have so much as one revolutionary thought in your head". We started a war games club in College and we made the mistake of inviting an American general to give a talk (this during the time of the Vietnam war). There was a riot and we had to barricade the door to prevent the Maoists getting at him. I remember when they took over the Dining Hall they hung a huge red banner across the building. I grabbed it and legged it as fast as I could like a brave counter-revolutionary
On the music front, I lived through punk, disco, glam rock, anti-war songs etc etc. How would one describe music now? Generic ? My older brothers' generation would probably have seen the major change of the 1960s with the Beatles and the Rolling Stones which lead on to the 1970s and 80s which were the decades where just about anything went in music.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.
p.s. The So Farewell Then thread has 150,000 views. The Celeb Totty thread has 1.5 million views. Totty is ten times more interesting than death apparently

Leonard Nimoy

He just couldn't cling on any longer but he did live long and prosper to be fair.

Quit smoking 30 years ago but it got him in the end. Stamp out those butts.
Carl O'Malley of the Irish Times passed. Not my favourite soccer writer, but from the few times we had to interact I liked his honesty. Only 36 too and apparently died at football.
This will be a doubler. Boris Nemtsov, one of the old establishment turned anti-Putin (but realistically one of the cadre) shot dead yesterday. He was, in person, a nice man, but not somebody you'd leave in charge of your wallet. Putin "has assumed personal control" of the investigation. Read into that as you wish! He was 55 and only a couple of weeks ago gave interviews saying Putin wold have him killed. It has the fingerprints of Peskov all over it!

DID YOU NOTICE A SIGN OUTSIDE MY HOUSE...?
Ah christ...I remember him better from Super Troopers.

Surprised noboby mentioned Jim McCann who passed at 70 today. Saw him decades ago in a marquee in Blanchardstown, don't remember much except lots of people singing along. I was more a fan of the Fureys, but when they came, they were already half cut (been thrown out of the Greyhound I think) and played half a show. Oh, them was the days.
From a different era in Northern politics, former UUP leader James Molyneaux, aged 94.

I was never able to resolve what I truly thought of Jim.
Can't stand his politics but more charismatic and trustworthy than Trimble. Toughie.

Having seen Belsen during his war service, you might have thought that he'd be aware of the dangers of bigotry and discrimination, but perhaps not.

I loved Daniel Von Bargen in Seinfeld and Malcolm in the Middle.
Poor guy was blind the last several years of his life after a gruesome failed suicide attempt.

Pat Kenny just announced on Newstalk that Tony Fenton has died.

Really sad altogether. One of the more likable characters in Irish radio.

Very true. Always thought his voice had a quality that made him stand out.
