Bobby Zamora gone to Brighton - If Charlie Austin is picked up by somebody over the next few weeks, Reece should be given the opportunity to impress in the first team fairly quickly as, beyond Austin, QPR's strike force looks fairly ordinary, on paper at least

    Update on Olamide Shodipo:

    http://www.getwestlondon.co.uk/sport...aink-11638478:

With opportunities from Tjaronn Chery, Nedum Onuoha and Ben Gladwin, Hasslebaink was also pleased with the impact 19-year-old Olamide Shodipo had on the game. Shodipo, who has spent the last three years at Loftus Road, has been awarded significant time on the pitch this pre-season.Hasslebaink explained: “We want to bring players through from the youth if they are good enough.

Rob Brennan, an Irish journalist from London and QPR fan, reckons Shodipo will go a long way:

@RobBrennan82 Jul 19 This boy @MideSho is going to replace McGeady in the Ireland squad. Expect Keano to be at Loftus Rd in Aug. #COYBIG

Can you stop creating a feeling of excitement and optimism on here. How many times in the past have we build up our hopes up to have them dashed. Too many for me! Not a criticism Charlie, just tired of having my optimism continually dashed.

Interesting...had a quick look at the results for QPR's U-23s and he scored four times in pre-season friendlies before he was sent to Newport - the loan spell probably couldn't be called a roaring success as he didn't score and got injured but at least he got some game time in at senior level. Hopefully he can keep this form up and re-establish himself as a potential striker for the future by breaking back into the R's first team soon.

Has joined Woking in the Conference. Long way back from there, though not impossible as Finnan and Kinsella have shown.

Ouch - had high hopes for Grego-Cox. He'd be the oldest of the large batch of underage strikers from which we're hoping to assemble a frontline that can collectively come close to replacing Robbie (an individual Robbie-replacement might be too much to expect) and to see him drop three divisions to the National League three years after breaking into a Premier League squad is disheartening - in an earlier post I said that QPR's relegation to the Championship and transfer-embargo of the time might help him to further his career at the club... obviously things haven't worked out that way. Is there a potential silver lining? Well, there could be. As noted before, Steve Finnan and Mark Kinsella had spells in non-league football, as did Jamie Vardy, Charlie Austin and Scott Hogan; You could even point to how Sean Maguire turned his career around at Cork City. As he left QPR by mutual consent four months before the end of his contract and was immediately signed up by Woking, it looks like he was actively seeking first-team football and didn't want to sit around any longer collecting a paycheque for sporadic appearances in the U23s, which does show some initiative on his part - at this point in the season there were probably limited options available to him to do this. That said, it's only a short-term deal to the end of the season so he really has to hit the ground running if he wants to get his career moving forward again and hope he does because a player who scored five goals in two games for QPR's U23s after his loan spell and four goals in two games for our U21s must have something to offer. Anyway he came on as a second-half sub in Woking's defeat at the hands of Tranmere today: http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/42588023
