I've had a place recommended to me already, I though I was going to get away with it having got through a game Wednesday without much bother, then played again Saturday and could hardly walk with the pain in my back on Sunday, looks like I'll have to splash the cash and have it looked at properly.

Love the piece by Brian de Salvo in the Wexford Youths Programme from the weekend. He says some nice things about us. Thanks Brian!

Injuries are starting to get the better of me. Currently have a broken ankle which were preceeded by a torn cruciate and dislocated shoulder. And having gone from League of Ireland to intermediate football to League of Ireland football to America and back to LoI, it now stands that Ive not done a proper pre season in 4 years.

Passinginterest - What are the heels like on your various different boots & shoes, especially your work ones / the ones you wear most often? I had them for years, before they would mysteriously disappear, only to have them return six months later. Eventually I realised a causation / effect thing going on with the heels of my shoes. As Stann said, the back is possiblyy related to the splints. Do go and get it checked out though - money spent on your back and feet is money very well spent.

Oh, and that advice will be €75. For any of you who have read it.
That question was less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

Help me, Arthur Murphy, you're my only hope!

    Cheque is in the post!

Shin splints first became a real problem after running for a bus in rather unsuitable shoes last year. I've got a decent pair of Asics runners that I wear most of the time now and I generally find them very good. The shin splints flared up again after a hard training session on a Thursday and then playing asto on the Friday and Sunday, astro boots that are a touch too big probably not helping, I always find they flair up if I play too much astro anyway, even with previous astro boots.

Back is something that gives me discomfort occasionally but never really this bad, now I think of it I remember it starting to hurt the two nights I tried to train a fortnight ago, only lasted about a half hour before the shins got too bad, but was feeling the back a bit too, resting the shins seems to have helped them but now the back has flared up.

Definitely time to get it checked professionally.

The special insoles (orthotics--I know awful spelling!) for your shoes is what you need. Had the exact same trouble a few years ago when I was in the middle of trialing for a squad, couldn't walk let alone run! My physio took the measurements of feet, the stride of my walk etc and made the insoles and haven't had a bit of trouble since. I now call him Miracle Man!

Am getting one sorted out as we speak too (and it is spelled correctly!), I have a supinated foot apparently, and the posture of it over the years now causes searing pain in the sole after, and sometimes during, astro games. Should have the orthotic insert by next week, hope I'll be calling the physio Miracle Girl so!
Mind you, getting some mileage out of it up to now, amazing how a bit of plantar fasciitis can interfere with running, passing, shooting, heading, tackling, marking, tracking back...

Don't think my feet are flat, knees have been giving me a little bit of pain over the last few months. I've emailed a couple of places to get quotes for an assesment and the potential cost of orthotics, it's not cheap but would be worth it if I can be relatively pain free.

Which is more like your feet? I've flat feet and it's a pain for picking up niggling pains, especially back and ankles.

I had some knee problem when I was about 12. Just a bit of swelling really but had to give up one sport for a while cos I was over doing it and I was getting pains in other parts of my body as a result.

    Same here.

For the same reason that I was going to join the debating team at school until someone talked me out of it.
