    Krakow

Heading to Krakow on Thursday for a long weekend and
was just wondering if anyone here had been there before?

Planning on taking the tour of Auschwitz on Friday and was
gonna do a trip out to the Salt Mines one of the days but
    heard conflicting reports about those?

    Any advice/recommendations appreciated.

No advice to give, but hoping to take in the area next year on a road trip during the Slovakia/Czech Republic double-header week, so any feedback welcome on your return!

Was in one of the concentration camps about ten years ago - can't remember which one now (Bergen possibly). Well worth it; very chilling experience.

There for the Intertoto game 3 years ago. Incredible place for stunning women and cheap beer. if you pay more than a euro for the latter you're being ripped off.

Deliberately didnt go to Auschwitz as didnt wanna ruin what turned out to be the best Rovers trip ever!

Agree with NY, smashing place, great people. We drank in a little Irish bar owned by a Clareman. Proper gent and a fine establishment. One of those Irish boozers that aren't "Oirish pubs" if you know what I mean. Now if I could only remember the name of the place....

Disagree about Auschwitz, it's an absolute must see, Birkenau in particular. Mind you having lunch in the Auschwitz restaurant was a bit eerie.

O'Morgans was the place. There's another "Irish" bar but its in a gloomy cellar.

Oh Auschwitz has to be a must see. Some other time.

Salt mines are worth it if the is a party on there, normally every second weekend if I remember. Great to meet locals

You will walk away from Auschwitz a changed person.

Peasant table is good for local food. and try the local shot of Tobasco sauce strawberry stuff and vodka. lush!!
    It's only just begun...............

Just back this morning. Fantastic trip, definately recommend it

Krakow is a really nice city, very clean and nowhere near as manky
    and seedy as Prague.

Went on a tour of Auschwitz and Birkenau. Definately worth going
to and is a fairly chilling experience.

The Market Square is a hive of activity, dont know if there was some
festival/occasion on at the weekend but there was loads of things
going on the the square. football games, basketball, live gigs and a
skateboard competition. Mad craic to see it all.

Food and drink is cheap as chips.

Recommend eating in the Orient Express. Inside is kitted out like the
train. There were 8 of us, had starters, mains and deserts. Wine with
the meal, a few pints and a heap of vodka cocktails. Cost about €20 each!

Beer cost between €1 and €2.50 depending on where you go. Some pubs
closing policy is that they close when the last person leaves!!

    Highly recommend going there.

On the one occasion I went to McDonalds, to get hangover food,
a big mac meal thing cost about €2-€3 or something

Krakow is lovely, have been a few times in the winter and summer. Great thing is, you're not too far from the Tatras and the resort of Zakopane(class place) I actually climbed the big mountain (several hours it took though )
Back on topic, Krakow is great for tourists, you can easily walk around the city and see everything. I have forgotten the names of some places but I can check - st mary's catherdral i think, royal palace(nice), main square(pretty impressive), old Jewish quarter. I imagine it is similar to Prague(just from pics)
Sorry if you have gone already! I do think it is best in April/May or Sept when it is still warm, but not as busy.
Lovely food everywhere and yes the women are pretty if not a bit on the skinny/skeleton side at times, shame about the men!
    Okicim is a nice beer.

You missed your chance at the international friendly last year, Sligoman. Can you blame GT for extending her net?
That question was less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

Help me, Arthur Murphy, you're my only hope!
