Super career, super set piece specialist. He was injured in Japorea, a nerve problem in his left foot, no? In typical Irish manner he was ridiculed for much of his career. He and Kelly were an awesome full back combo.

That said, anyone remember the missed easy header early in the crucial home game against Switzerland under Kerr? Awful miss

Good guy, very good player. Hope he has a great retirement - and gets over his Trapattoni thing.

Anyway he has had a very good career.
About as good a Usain Bolt playing left back for Ireland I expect.

A stand out memory was his first game under Kerr his recall against Israel at home and banging home that free kick with a no nonsense approach, that shut up the critics.

Harte on Newstalk's 'Off The Ball'

The Trap comments seem a bit all over the place.

That miss lingers a bit alright. In a way it was possibly more costly that the penalty miss against Spain because we ended up equalising then anyway. For some reason, though, it's not something that still grates on me. We were so poor on the night that I think the chances of Switzerland getting themselves back into the game were pretty high, in truth we blew that campaign long in advance on that match. Israel home and away and even France at home would bother me more than Harte's chance. John O'Shea's miss in Paris as well of course, it really was a campaign that could have been so different but I think we were at a low ebb by the time the Swiss game came around, even if it was still all to play for.

Was always a fan of Harte. Pity he wasn't his usual self in 2002. Some more comments from him here in appreciation of Mick McCarthy and Roy Keane: http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2015/...ails-mccarthy/

The victory over Holland in 2001 was his favourite moment in an Ireland shirt. Hard to argue with that.

Harte was on the Fantasy Football Club during the week, it was a good interview.

Joey Barton picked Richard Dunne in his team on the same programme. He said if he was a very, very underrated player and if he was English he would have got more plaudits and been a bigger name in the game.

Did Harte not play with Paul McGrath ? Wasn't in his fantasy side. Four Irish in his team: Uncle Gary Kelly, Denis Irwin, Roy Keane and Robbie Keane.

    Favourite manager: Mick McCarthy.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Harte made his international debut in the 1996 US Cup - which McGrath didn't play - and McGrath's last game was in 1997. So minimal, if any, overlap between the two.
