Man City pay SI a fortune to commit to train and play.

paul mcgrath was so good we got on with the flaws
Paul McGrath wanted to play for his country despite his character flaws.
And when he did let his team down, he felt bad, owned up and had the support and understanding of his manager and team mates.
SI has had the same support offered to him. He chosen to stay away, hiding behind a web of incredible denial, all of his own creation.

Ya but could you seriously say with all the hatred following here in ireland you could blame him for not wanting to come back?
    Nonsense.
Here some 80% wanted him back in a poll right after his escapades.
He was given an award by the FAI (after an fan poll) for that season.

Trappatoni visited him personally and invited him back, Trap was confident the player would return. SI denied this meeting even took place.

SI is a gobs**** and regardless of future results I have full confidence that Trap had handled this situation with sensitivity and maturity.

Stop comparing Ireland with McGrath, a man who played injured on more than one occasion. He had painkilling injections before the Italy game in 94 and almost singlehandedly kept them at bay. He was a genius, albeit flawed, but a true Irish legend. Stephen Ireland has let us down, badly, and the stupid baldy clown should never be let near the Irish team again.

Thats the point Bellavista, he could well be the difference between us qualifying and not, but he chooses to turn his back.If you remove your understandable Cobh bias from the argument, you must admit this to be the case.

Unbelieveable goal from Ireland today against Fulham. He took the ball from well inside his own half, ran forty yards, and tucked the ball into the net from well outside the penalty area.

Good God we need this guy back in the team. What a special, special player.

Not mentioning the serious deflection is being too economical with the truth.

Apologies, I honestly didn't see the deflection at the time. Must have been blind. Great goal anyhow.

Don't ever take up match reporting!!!!

tucked the ball into the net = looped into the net off Dickson Etuhu to beat Mark Schwarzer

What like ...? You want me to hold the back page because a professional footballer can pass and go? I acknowledged the tap in and if it'll help dry yeer eyes I'll acknowledge he passed the ball. But he's supposed to do that...

Coming up to 90 pages on this thread.

Surely the time has come to move it to Other Football?

Can you print it off and sent it to him and then delete it and we can all forget the little ****.

The only people really interested in talking about him are those that post on this forum. He's Irish and for me is representing Ireland when he plays in Germany, Denmark, etc.

Exactly "for you he is representing Ireland" the irony being he turns his back at the actual opportunity of doing so.

The one thing he isn't doing is representing Ireland, unless by Ireland you mean himself.

The idea that a player who refuses to represent his country is somehow doing it indirectly through playing for a foreign club is, frankly, mindboggling...

ironic that people calling for the thread to be moved are contributing to its length and persistence in the ireland forum! i thought his goal against hamburg was absolutely fantastic, incredible first-time ball and his follow-up run was so good that it made his finish all the more simple. the best goals always are!

It should be moved... I click on to this thread every so often cos I think it's breaking news abut representing us again, and it's the same old ******. It should be moved until he has some relavence to a campaign again... May aswell contribute to a thread on Kevin Nolan or Paul Scholes as this chump... They could have played for us but chose not to.
I pity the fool!.... But suggest ways that he might improve himself.

He is actually turning out to be a very similar player to Scholes in his prime

Ok, maybe it doesn't need to be closed - censorship, you don't have to ready it etc etc - but perhaps the mods could reset the thread? It doesn't need to be 90 pages & 1800 posts long and feels excessive. We have gone over every detail, nothing new is being added so a new thread might at least give a better idea of how popular the subject really is
