Foot.ie! Setting up a Football Club Website

Just putting a post together for anyone that might be thinking of putting a website together for their football club. I will put a link to this post in the Junior League Club Websites thread (sticky thread at the top of the forum) so its easy to find later on.

Feel free to add anything you think should be in here as well. Its going to have two types of info in the content section. A 'must have' in bold lettering and a 'suggestion/idea' in normal lettering.

    Setting Up

Webs is a very useful free website to use for building a website. It's a template based site and does not need any knowledge of HTML or web design. If you're looking for commercial hosting or a professional website, please get in touch with dahamsta, the operator of Foot.ie.

    Content

    • Full name of the club
    • Full address of where the team play
    • Directions of where the team play
    • Full address of where the team train
    • Directions of where the team train

    • Full list of committee members + positions held within the club
    • Contact details
    • Full list of clubs sponsors

    • Official Club Crest [image]

    • Year the club was founded/established
    • Year the club entered the league
    • Club history section [in chronological order]

    • Fixtures section
    • Results section
    • Honours section

    • Club Merchandise section

    • Travel section [directions from all approaches to the ground] for visiting teams (using AA Route Planner for this)
    • Resources section [places to stay, eat near the ground, taxis, buses]

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

I added a note about commercial hosting and web development above. Just noting it here so people don't think I'm putting words or recommendations in A face's mouth.

Presumably to work in conjunction with the website we already have up and running for our club?

There's an awful lot of duplication of effort on the web about football clubs. Of course everybody has a right to run their own website, but it just results in a lot of bad - usually very bad - websites about clubs, with no decent, authoritative source of information. If efforts were pooled, different people could concentrate on what they're good at - design, development, content, etc - to produce an excellent website. Same goes for forums.
