Just going on the quotes from the Seth Johnson signing, it seems O'Leary hadn't any part in the contract negotiations. If that's the case, it's hard to blame him for the financial collapse.

Except it wasn't a player he needed.
Or added to his squad's quality.

Poor judgment on the playing front, at the time from DO'L.

"or added to his squads quality" WTF? Leeds beat off Villa, both Merseyside clubs and every premier side in London in landing Johnson. Are you seriously saying they all had poor judgment but you knew better?

No, but every Leeds fan did at the time.

And "beat off" is a joke. Then and now.

A Celtic fan presuming to speak for Leeds supporters is the only joke here AB.

    Ha ha.

No-one thinks DO'L is a good manager, except maybe him.

And don't worry;I know plenty about Leeds United AFC.
Rather more than you I reckon.

You steered this off somewhat off DO'L and onto your being the Oracle who spotted that Seth Johnson was a dud despite half the Premier league begging to differ with you.

Well that's a given of course. You have a rest now. The nurse'll be round with your mush'n'meds shortly.

Did you also foresee the series of horrific knee injuries that kept him on the sidelines for about two and a half years straight? Or were those knee injuries that ended his career also a result of his lack of talent?

    Wouldn't say it's hindsight.
O'Leary and Roy Keane were both crap managers who turned bad and either needed loads of money or bottled it after some initial success and the fact no-one's come looking since is proof enough in the real world. And if it was anyone now it would be Keano.

Seth Johnson was just another EPL journeyman. Why would anyone think he was any good?

It's total hindsight. He was a talented player who never got to reach his potential because his knees packed in and eventually had to retire. To be a journeyman he'd had to have, you know, journeyed. It's hard to move around without knees.

Plenty of good managers have tried and failed with huge financial backing. It's not a guarantee of success when you have money - O'Leary made Leeds the third best team in England with the third most money and the third best squad. Ask Luiz Scolari or Carlo Ancelotti - last time I checked they were world class managers.

Just curious - how many games do you take in in a season?

Only heard a couple of minutes of it but David O'Leary was amongst the guests on the Off The Ball Roadshow last night. In the bit I caught they were asking if he would consider getting back into management. He seemed half hearted but said that if a very good job came along then he would, but stressed that he wouldn't go any lower than a Championship club with a lot of potential (Leeds United, anyone? ).

He said he's been offered a lot of jobs (since Villa) but that none of them appealed to him (with a no disrespect to the guys that did end up taking them disclaimer).

Interestingly, if true, he said that he was offered one very good Premier League job, a big club but it just didn't feel right at the time but kind of regrets it now. He said the manager that did take it did very well. I wonder what club that was?

He's living a good life it seems, playing golf and I think he said something about travelling around for some football related stuff too (possibly as an employee with Arsenal?).... didn't really catch that part properly.

Might get a proper listen later on - http://www.newstalk.com/podcasts/Off...s_FA_Cup_glory

I was at that, in the Helix in DCU. O'Leary was looking well, tanned and relaxed. Said he'd be interested in getting back into management, but only at the minimum level of Championship. Leeds, anyone?

Kind of stepping on my toes there a bit Tets.

Maybe you can clear up the reason for the various travelling he does? Did you get a photo with Ballack?

didn't get a photo, he was called away before I got near the stage. I was late getting in there, so was sitting waay up at the back.

Don't think O'Leary mentioned the travelling, apart from saying he'd lived in Dubai for a year covering the Premier League.

I just assumed the year in Dubai was when he was managing there. Maybe the travelling is just standard Premier League punditry work though or something. Must check it out later.
