I would go the European route,Roy Hodgson as somebody mentioned earlier, speaks english and knows the players are not going to be that gifted technically unlike a Troussioer/Milahovic ??? who may expect a higher techncal level

Always thought the guy was a waffler (reminded me of David Pleat) but I agree that's not a reason to go against him. He certainly has had a varied coaching career and did a Big Jack with Switzerland between 1992-95 but he doesn't stay any place very long which isn't a good sign. Presumably also he'd have to be bought out of his Finnish contract. They're doing ok under him in their group (20 pts from 12 games and in 4th place ahead of Belgium).

He is contracted with the Finns for the Euro 2008 campaign, so could be available as early as Nov21st. I'd imagine we could approach him before that and try get it done and dusted. That's what England were going to do with Scolari.
Troussier's time for the Ireland job was when Mick resigned/forced out.
He was fresh from some success and some adulation with Japan. He had no baggage with our civil war and spoke (maybe too) openly about the priority of getting Keane back. At that time he looked to be a dose of fresh air.
That time is gone, in the meantime his eccentricities are more to the fore.

Blackburn qualified for the UEFA cup in his first season and after a bad start to his second he quit when the fans turned against him. It's a slight blip on his CV and not exactly reason enough to disregard him. Do you even know about his abundant achievemants as a coach in various countries?

New Ireland manager has to be an outsider not Irish and not a previous player. They need someone with an outside, holistic view to clear out the baggage there now and play players in positions they play for their clubs every week and also to drop out of team and squad the players who are not performing (example Robbie keane)
Troussier or Hodgson or Beenhakker or Klinsmann or Van Gaal or any outsider would be an excellent choice. all have long periods of experience at international or big big clubs unlike that clown gimp we have now. all these afore mentioned would command the respect of the players which at this stage after Kerr and Stan (Ginger gimp) is badly needed.
However the root cause of the current problem is that slimey spin doctor of bull %hit John Delaney who should be tied to chair and made watch hour after to hour of good quality international football p[layed by Brazil, Argentina, Brazil et al, then forced to watch Ireland over the last 18 months over and over.

All the hype on here and other places about banners, protests outside Merrion Square, black tee shirts/pink jumpers etc. etc is totally immaterial. John Delaney, as CEO of the FAI is not answerable to a 'mob'. However, under the consititution of the FAI he is answerable to the National Council, a body constituted of nominees from the football community in Ireland.
I read on another thread here a response from Gerry McDermott to another foot.ie member which more of less says the same thing. While McDermott may be putting an FAI spin on this, I have no such agenda and was simply pointing out that Delaney does not run the FAI single handedly and without reference to anyone else.
Previous CEO's, Rooney, Menton and O'Byrne all were ousted and although Delaney in his role of Honorary Treasurer may have had a hand in these being ousted, he did not do it on his own, he needed the support of those on the FAI National Council, that council being made up of nominees from the clubs, the leagues, schoolboy, university and armed forces football. If the CEO does not have the support of the council then he has to go.
I don't think this is naivety, the is just they way it is. In other words 'dems are the rules'.
