    What next - 2010

Assuming Stan is going nowhere and we're not just going to give up, what are our hopes for 2010. First thing is the build up starts now, we effectively have 3 serious friendlies with no withdrawls so we can learn a few things.

    I'd like to see

Who is our No.2 goalie. It's worrying that colgan was on the bench for the last 2 games, either call kenny back or give Doyle some match time.

A 3rd Central Defender - McShane is out for Germany so we should play O'Dea, assuming he is next choice

An agreed pair of full backs, Finnan and Kilbane would be my choice but both would have to commit to the next campaign (and I have a hunch Finnan will retire!)

Most important of all, a solid CM pairing. Possibly the 2 Reids in whcih case Stephen should play even if not match fit. Other options are Potter (maybe) or Gibson (would have to be playing for a club).

If Duff is back fit, he and Hunt should be the wide players, Ireland/Reid can fill in if needed.

Up front, I'd like to see Keogh getting a game and Long (though he hasnt impressed me much). We havce lots of prospect strikers but we need to knwo more about them.

Think O'Dea has to be given some gametime anyway.

Hopefully persuade Finnan to stay on. He's 31 now so may consider packing in the internationals. If he goes we suddenly look very dodgy in the full-back slots.

I presume Carsley will go so we'll have to find a central midfield. Central midfield has been a real weak point since Keane and Holland retired.

Get Duff back and pray he can stay fit.

Its important that Garvan, Gibson and O'Dea can make the step up to the next level. We haven't had much look in the past regarding potential
players, weather through injury or a failure to develop.

    Examples
Injury: Sadlier, O'Neill, McPhail, Duff, S Reid
Development : OShea, S Quinn, Yeats (although still young), Flood, Miller

and many more in each category.

The way things are going we will be lucky to see one of the three make it
