your scepticism seems well founded; mccarthy is named in the finalised squad so will likely at least travel for medical analysis, one would have thought...

Koeman with some barbed "praise" for the Irish management team there, but it's very positive news that McCarthy is expected to be back within a week or two. Hopefully, he'll be available for the play-offs, as his presence should more than compensate for the loss of Meyler.

Plenty of time for him to get hurt again. Guy can't walk down a flight of stairs anymore without tweaking something.

Nice that he called him "an important player" also. He might be more important now than he was when he was available!

Another couple of spankings for Everton and this particularly dreary Koeman v O'Neill saga will be over. Can't say I'll miss it. Or Koeman.

James played the first 45 minutes of the Everton U-23 v. Wolfsburg. Good to see him getting some match fitness anyway - I wonder if he will see any first team football before the Denmark game.

The way Everton are performing, I think he'll get chances if he remains fit.

Harry Charsley played in that game too, and Sam Byrne was on the bench

Reports that he's injured his hamstring again and looks like he'll be out for a few months

James is out for months not weeks
It happened in a training session. Little doubt that Koeman's hands are all over this latest setback.

McCarthy out and Whelan in could be the difference in us not going to the world cup. Just terrible news

To be honest McCarthy hasn’t played enough football lately to be in with a serious chance of playing well .

I fear for his football career if he cannot show an ability to stay fit . Is he one that played too much football at too early an age ?
