He'll be 22 on Sunday. Unfulfilled talent unfortunately.

He probably won't make it for us at this stage, but I really hope he can start playing regularly. If there's one Irish player who deserves a career in football, it's this lad.

Why? From what I recall, his problems had more to do with the jar than knee injuries.

Wasn`t he a problem child everywhere he went? Didn`t he get released more than once for being out of shape from too much booze?

I think it was just for being out of shape. Andy Reid's in the same boat and he doesn't even drink. His main problem is still that his knees are basically non-existent.

edit: not the same literal boat. That's a capsizin' waiting to happen.

Andy Reid almost certainly drinks. I remember seeing him with a pint when he was featured on TV3 for a show on traditional music. I think Trap has also alluded to his staying up and drinking as one of the reasons why he has been cast out of the Irish team.

Try the Hawksley on Derby Road on a Sunday. You'll get your answer in there I'd say...

I remember talking to a cab driver in Durham who knew Andy Reid. The story goes that one time when Reid was at Sunderland he gave him £400 to go to Nottingham, to his apartment and pick up his guitar in the midst of a sesuin... The provenance from the story comes from the description given by the driver of the area, you would have had to had been there. Other bits and bobs he dropped into the conversation made me believe the story.

Eoin Wearen mentioned Terry Dixon on twitter earlier, so I was wondering where he is now
Turns out he signed for Aylesbury FC in the Evo-Stik League Southern Division One Central just a week and a half ago: http://nonleague.pitchero.com/news/m...striker-35841/

Worm still posts the weekend goalscorers on YBIG, but as far as I can tell, other than that one weekly post, he's abandoned the site

"I started to drink alcohol quite a lot. That wasn't a good time for me. I was quite depressed."

"Also I was stuck in bad habits. I was still drinking and it was non-stop. Then they gave me all that money at West Ham and I didn't know what to do with it. I was just going out all the time and it kills me now just thinking about it."
He added: "Nowadays you can't drink alcohol every other day like I was. You can't drink alcohol every week and be a professional footballer in the Premier League. Those days are gone. You just can't do it any more."

Very sad combination of knee injuries and alcohol consumption.
