    Alternative to Closing Threads?

Recently, there have been a few threads, especially in the Current Affairs forum, which have been closed, due to the silly posts of only 1 or 2 people.

Is there a better way to do this than closing the entire thread? I ask because apart from those 1 or 2 people, the threads were being treated with respect, I felt.

Is it possible to block users from posting in a specific thread? (I know it is possible to block a user from an entire forum)

I dont want to hinder any rights to free speech and all that, but I'm tired of having threads closed down when there was a lot to discuss, and most people were happy to do so with common sense.

    Any ideas anybody?

some mods outright close threads, when sometimes its better to split a thread to rubbish or off topic like other mods do

Splitting threads can go on to a point. After which there's so much crap in a thread, it's lost anyway.

That's my view of it anyway.

I think it is utterly pointless and stupid closing a thread, just what the **** if the point of it? It seems like a totally mindless action what exactly does it achieve? If you think there is too much rubishin a thread they why are you read in it? You would have to be totally insane to do that so I don't see what it achieves other than saving a negligible amount of resources. And there is nothing to stop them people posting rubbish moving onto an other another thread and having that closed too.

I think mods just use it 'because they can ie the function is there so I must use it, or to 'win' and arguement, (when in reality they use it to end an arguement they know they can't win)

Anyway can we have this thread locked now?.

Sometimes too much crap in threads & too long to have to prune all the rubbish. This Mod lark not a full time job...

...that and locking it and leving it there shows why it was locked, rather than people asking why etc

Probably not, given the number of Fianna Fail voters about.

I love the "no one is interested in talking about this" responce after a bucket load of posts
