WBA were going to sign a couple of strikers hence they sold Long, however the deals fell through and they had to 'unsell' Long!!!

Does not really leave Long in a great position really does it? Playing for a club that does not want him.

However I just hope he gets his head down and get on with it, don't think he is the type to go into a sulk
plus on the bright side Hull want him, and they are 2 points above WBA at the moment.

A bit from Kevin Kilbane about transfer deadline day

Kevin Kilbane column: "I didn't have time to read the contract"

I don't think it was a simple as that. There was something about recent contract negotiations falling through so it might have been a case of offloading him now for a reasonable amount rather than loosing him for little or nothing over the next 2 windows. Provided they could find adequate cover.
I pity the fool!.... But suggest ways that he might improve himself.

Well I was not suggesting it was simple, if it gets any more complicated my head will probably explode!!

I think that is one of the problems with the transfer deadline, too much complicated interrelated business going on in a very short period of time

Shane Long's headed goal for WBA against Chelsea earlier:

Three Chelsea defenders somehow left flat-footed, but he did well to barge his way in and connect.

I always think Shane is taller than he really is I guess his name Long kind of make you think he is pretty
tall, the commentators were saying he did well for a short guy, although 6 foot is hardly short in my
book but I guess it is for getting headers in the penalty area. He did really well to head it in, just a shame
    about that dodgy penalty.
Nice to see him starting the match.

I was the opposite. Thought he was smaller than he actually is for ages. I think it was because he has pace that you'd normally associate with a smaller player. It was a really super spring for his goal, badly needed.

I'm with you on this. Everytime I hear he's six-foot I think... "Wha?"
DID YOU NOTICE A SIGN OUTSIDE MY HOUSE...?

    He's not even 6ft tall.
He's just another 6ft tall wannabie.
From where I stand, 6ft is a bit on the small size, not a midget but could have done better.

Well I guess 6 foot is not tall these days, I was just looking at the height of goal keeper of the past out of interest, Jennings,
Shilton Clemence Zoff all just 6 foot but I expect they were considered pretty tall at the time. Even Given is only 6'1 but Westwood is 6'2 Forde 6'3.
All Man U keepers are 6'3 minimum

Wow - cant believe that Forde is a) 6'3" and b) taller than Westwood.

Instead of thinking hes a stocky little f*cker, I would now say he is built like a brick sh!t house.

His "hang time" is phenomenol. You can really appreciate it from that third angle.

You didn't think Forde was tall? I know he's well-built but I always thought he looked tall too. Granted, Westwood is more a beanpole. Randolph is taller and wider than either.

Randolph isn't that tall. He's a minnow in the land of tall people.

I appear to have done myself a mischief. Randolph is shorter than either. I will now flagellate myself in accordance with foot.ie custom.

He judged it perfectly. Imagine if we had a player with the aerial ability of Long and the instinct of Robbie Keane.

Well he has pace so he obviously has power in his legs but I think the key thing is the arms,
need to get the center of gravity as high as you can on take off, hence arms up then get the center of
gravity down as low as possible at the peak of the jump, and that means keeping the feet and arms
as low as possible. And if you look you see he has his toes and fingers as low as possible, almost looks
as if he is using his feet as flippers. Also he seems to have pretty big heavy arms which helps in moving the
center of gravity from high to low, but great technique.

    Just scored a cracker v Villa\

G Nev gave him a good build up on MNF about his work rate and heading ability pregame, but this goal was down to a great touch and a nice finish.

Diagonal ball over the top, took it down over his head, beating the defender with his first touch, got his out of his feet with his second and finished to the bottom left corner left footed with his third. The kind of goal he's capable of when his confident is up.
