There's a lesson to be learned there for Irish footballers about maximising their potential, playing European football and experiencing new cultures.

If Stokes had Sheridan's attitude his career would be a lot different now.

Less bad influences around him, less sectarianism and less drinking.

    Ah well.
Ah yes Blackburn a sectarian hell hole but don't forget Graeme souness married an Irish Catholic

When I mentioned sectarianism, I was alluding to the fact that he stagnated in the Old Firm fishbowl for so long, receiving dog's abuse from opposition fans - though he doesn't help himself by keeping company with some rather unsavory people, and having a shall we say "outspoken" father.

There have been newspaper articles referring to people asking him about guns, there have been photographs with IRA members published in national papers.

To be quite frank I think he would have been better served by doing what Sheridan did and leaving Scotland sooner and getting away from bad influences.

Set to turn down lucrative offers from Asia to sign pre-contract with Jagiellonia Bialystok.

Sheridan has more lucrative options in China and South Korea but has agreed a contract in principle with the Polish outfit.

Typical Irish. Turning down the exotic in favour of safe options like Poland. Afraid to learn new alphabets no doubt.

I wish there were more like him. He's the only Irish lad playing in a country where English isn't the spoken language.

And it's doing him the world of good.

He probably has more Champions League/Europa League experience than anyone in our squad.

According to wikipedia John O'Shea(75) has more than twice the number of appearances in European competition than Sheridan (35)

they've lost a bit of ground in the last few weeks and now sit 4 behind lechia gdansk, another side unfamiliar with topping the table.

fair play to Sheridan, the easy option would have been to spend his career with the likes of Kilmarnock and Motherwell. I bet he's twice the player he was when he went abroad and definitely worth a look at for the international team.

I am not sure why a spell with two Cypriot teams would make him twice the player he used to be, despite some success in Europe. Will be interesting though to watch his progress with Jagiellonia Białystok. Give us a J...
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.
