The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Was it one and the same club though? Did they not play in the Waterford League but played in the Kilkenny League instead?

No not at all. Dungarvan in Kilkenny is a village of about 200 people about 7 miles from the city.

    McCalmont Cup Quarter Final Draw

    Callan Utd v Lions A
    Freebooters A v Thomastown A
    Fort Rangers v Brookville
    River Rangers v Newpark A

4 of last seasons final 4 are again in the Quarter Final with the 1st game a repeat of last years semi-final. First Division Callan Utd again beat reigning Premier Division leaders and current leaders Evergreen A en route to reach this stage having also knocked them (and Freebooters A) out last season. Given poor league form, a repeat of last seasons victory in the competition seemed unlikely but they have as good a chance of any of the remaining teams. Lions A have held their own well in the Premier Division this season and would be favourites to advance.

Last years beaten finalist's Newpark should advance to the semi's along with Premier Division side Fort Rangers. Freebooters A will be looking to rescue an average season by their standards when they take on the team one place above them in the league, Thomastown A (who were the other of last seasons semi finalists). Both teams are well matched so it's a tough game to call.

    McCalmont Cup Final Draw

Sunday will see a new name on the McCalmont Cup.

Last years beaten finalist's Newpark (Kilkenny) take on Brookville (Ballyraggett) at 3pm in Derdimus Park.

For the 2nd season running the final will be contested by 2 teams outside the top flight with Newpark in the 1st Division and Brookville in the 2nd Division. Newpark are the form side for this having taken the Division 1 title this year and beating Premier League Runners-up Freebooters in the semi final. Brookville on the other hand have had an indifferent league campaign where they finished 7th of 10 in the 2nd Division and were also knocked out in the 1st round of the Division 2 Cup.

Newpark will be hot favourites for this one and will have a bit plenty of memories of last years disappointment as an added incentive.
