    Wexford FC v Bray

Late Thomas Oluwa penalty secured the three points for Wexford in a madcap game in Bray tonight but neither side will be happy with their defending during the course of the game. Overall though, I think the away side were the better of the two and deserved the points. Wexford started with Owen, Darragh, Ben, Cian, Ethan, Aaron, Mikie, Kian, Dobbsy, Mark and Reece. Both sides scored with their first meaningful attacks. On eight minutes, the Wexford defence gave Bray’s Magerusan too much space as he took the ball down and got a shot away. Owen Mason in the Wexford parried the first shot but the rebound fell kindly to Magerusan and he had no problem converting the rebound. 1-0 to Bray. Almost immediately, a ball over the top of the Bray defence put two Wexford attackers in the clear, and the ball was crossed for Mikie Rowe to sidefoot it comfortably past Jimmy Corcoran in the Bray goal. 1-1. From about 15 minutes onwards, Wexford seemed to gain the upper hand as they were the more energetic of the two, particularly in midfield, and were also the more direct of the two sides, which was a sensible tactic on the night. It was 2-1 to Wexford on 19 minutes when Mikie Rowe secured possession of the ball about 18 yards from the Bray goal, and his shot took a deflection to give Corcoran no chance. However, Bray looked dangerous when they could get the ball to their feet in the final Wexford third, and a cross from Bray’s left was diverted into the Wexford goal, probably by a Wexford defender, for 2-2. Just before the half-hour mark, Wexford doubled up on the lone Killian Cantwell of Bray down Wexford’s left wing, and no better player to have than Mark Hanratty to stand the ball up at Bray’s far post, where Dobbsy was all alone to head home for 3-2 to Wexford. A shout by Wexford for handball in the Bray penalty area just before the break was ignored by the referee and it finished 3-2 to Wexford at halftime.

The second half had fewer chances but again I think Wexford shaded it. With two minutes gone, Bray won a corner and the near post corner was headed home by Bray’s Omorehiomwan for 3-3. A lovely Wexford effort from distance whistled just past Bray’s top corner of the goal but otherwise chances in this half were relatively scarce. Wexford subs as the half progressed included Luka Lovic, Brandon McCann and the key change of Thomas Oluwa. Shortly after coming on, Thomas made a great break down Wexford’s left but his cross couldn’t find anyone from Wexford at Bray’s far post. Looking like a draw at this stage, but with five minutes to go, Thomas Oluwa got the ball to feet inside the Bray area, and Omorehiomwan put in a rash tackle to give the referee no option but to award a peno. Thomas grabbed the ball and converted the spotter very confidently to leave Wexford the winners by four goals to three at the final whistle. Good performances by Wexford going forward notably from Kian Corbally, Mikie Rowe and Dobbsy with Thomas Oluwa turning the game after he came on. 4-3 to Wexford at fulltime.
