Murphy seems to have impressed on his debut

Daryl Murphy almost capped his deput for Sheffield Wednesday, after his loan move from Sunderland, with a goal after five minutes. Murphy burst through the Stoke defence only to have his shot parried away by Stoke keeper Steve Simonsen. Wednesday manager, Paul Sturrock was impressed with Murphy on his debut and is hoping for a lot more from the Ireland U21 international.

Born 15/03/1983 which makes him 22.

Hope he does well in the derby game against Sheffield United this Friday. No matter what he does for the rest of his career this will still be one of the biggest games he'll have ever played in.

    Daryl Murphy

Daryl scored his first goal for Sunderland today, a last minute equalizer against Spurs having come on for the last 15 minutes. Keane scored Spurs' goal.

    Congrats Daryl

It was a good goal. He never gave up and got the goal in the end. I doubt it will do Sunderland much good though.

In fairness he was only on the pitch for 15minutes so if he had given up then it'd fairly poor.

See our International Football Consultant was at the game too.

Lets not fail to acknowledge the cracking shot from Richard Dunne against Charlton. Good goal for a centre-half. Great goal for the Honeymonster.

It's funny, I remember a number of commentators in England demanding that Stead be put into the England squad for Euro 2004. Similar to how many people were pushing to get Miller into the Irish squad. Serves as a timely reminder that one good season does not an international player make. We should be mindful of that when looking at Ireland, O'Brien and Doyle. Hell, Jonathon Douglas was playing centre-mid for Blackburn two years ago and now he's lucky to get a game for Leeds.

Let's hope Murphy continues to develop and get opportunities.
There is no such thing as a miracle cure, a free lunch or a humble opinion.

Just seen Murphys goal on TV, he had no right to get past the defender
(Stalteri, who is keeping Kelly out?) but he knocked if behind him and had
the strength to fight his way round him and score from a tight angle.
Robbies goal was just a tap in but he did well to lose his marker (Breen)
and make space for himself. Nice drive from Dunne too.

Murphy is on no win situation at Sunderland. Might get a chance in the 1st division next season though. Long way off international quality yet though.

Well done Daryl, very good goal and as an Arsenal fan I was doubly happy for him!

Good point above about Stead. He couldn't stop scoring when he moved up into the p'ship. Now look at him.

Murphy has something Ireland lacks though - height & strength. Alan Lee is rediscovering his form & one of the two may just be worth a squad place just to bring something different to what Robbie, Doyle, Elliott & Clinton can bring. Lee in particular is proving a real handful & is getting his head on the end of everything.

We're not exactly spoilt for choice. If we had to pick a squad based on players being "international quality" we wouldn't even be able to field a full XI.

On Jonathon Douglas - I think he's pretty much a regular for Leeds, no?

Watched the Coca-Cola Leagues highlights programme on Sunday morning and he looked a threat alright. Gets up well for the ball.
At the weekend, Robbie Keane, Kevin Doyle, Daryl Murphy and Alan Lee all scored. If Jon Macken ever gets called up to the Ireland squad again, there's something seriously wrong!

Great to see a player form here doing well like that. Fair play to Mick for signing him. Good finish too.

Remember him scoring the winner against us season before last.

Another 2 fingers to the ****s who slag our league from the barstools.

Don't quite get your point. I'm not one to slag our league, but isn't he playing in the English premiership because he was seen to be too good for our league.

    Daryl Murphy is a c**t !!

    I had a €50 treble yesterday:
    Celtic v Rangers-no 2nd goal @ 4/1
    Man City 8/11
    Spurs 4/6.

That would have been a nice €700 odd quid, so as I said, Daryl Murphy is a c**t !!

Fair play to him though...took it really well, but Staltieri needs his ass kicked big-time. Keeps Mick in a job for another week...
