I suppose they can do a risk/damage assessment fairly quickly. Still seems like something you should err on the side of caution over.

If this match goes ahead then it's a disgrace. The ground in its current condition isn't fit for purpose and should be rearranged

A disgrace why? It's obviously safe enough, so play away.

I'm sure the people making this call have actually reviewed the damage and assessed how safe it is. You have seen a few photographs and are able to say it isn't fit for purpose? Maybe wait and see what happens.

Respect to those making the decision. Unless there are any contrary indication it should be assumed that full health & safety considerations have happened.

Armchair specialists as usual. The professionals involved assessing it definitely know more than you do. Cop on to yourself.

If it goes ahead it will be because it's been assessed as safe. The stand will be closed but luckily it's the smallest stand. No way we'd sold all the tickets for there yet. No regular fan will miss out. Shame that some who would want to be there will miss out, but still better for 5000 of our fans to get the chance to maybe see us win it than the amount that would travel to Pat's.

Be delighted if it's safe enough to go ahead.

Cork City confirm game is going ahead tomorrow at 7.20pm

Very surprised from a health & safety standpoint that decision has got the go ahead so quickly
The Leinster Senior League needs a strong Bohemians

If they close the stand and remove the debris and an engineer is genuinely satisfied that the rest of the ground is ok then I don’t see a health and safety issue.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

Ha ha He certainly has my thanks anyway. Will be cheering on Cork tomorrow night. It's weird when a game with two other teams who are well ahead of us in the league could have such a bearing on our fate. If Cork win it tomorrow then, with the best will in the world it's hard to see them being really up for it on Friday (I hope.) Shouldn't have come to this for us this season, but there you go. Still sick about the two points we left behind in the Limerick game. We'd be just about safe if we'd won that I think, and we should have.
Out for a spell, got neglected, lay on the bench unselected.

It's their public liability insurer who will ultimately decide.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that stand back onto houses? How are they going to remove the roof without bringing heavy machinery onto the pitch?

It does back onto houses. Not sure what the plan is, heard it's expected to be completed by lunch tomorrow.

No plan, problems could arise before or after the lifting of the remains of the stand and this match has a thumbs up for k/o from the FAI Not slagging Cork here but the decision seems a bit rushed?

Why would we assume there's no plan? The engineers have been in and checked all the stands. They're comfortable with the safety and that it will be removed safely tomorrow long before kick off. I don't see any reason to doubt them unless someone more qualified than them knows more about it.

It wasnt the clubs decision to make either way. I don't see a reason to assume it was rushed.

If I remember correctly, the stand behind the goal in Saint Mel's Park was wrecked by a storm in the early nineties, the area was cordoned off games were played there soon if not directly after. If there are ant Athlone fans left on here perhaps they can tell us.

I was at the match after the end stand blew down in St. Mels. What I remember is the shock of seeing it gone and laughing at the time at what I thought were terrible engineers who constructed a back wall without any place for the wind to pass though. I am not a qualified engineer so in hindsight the roof might have lifted quicker had there been port holes of a type in the wall. Safety was not a big issue back then but it was all galvanised sheets that were easy to move. One main backer of the club was Tony Knight a builder so it was not a big deal to sort as far as I recall.

Not an engineer either but I thought the same thing, the stand in effect was a kite waiting to fly.
