According to Gavin McLaughlin's match report the penalty was awarded against Lee Desmond, so it is reasonable to assume that Ian Birmingham was red carded for something he said.

Deeply ironic if Jim McKell was so offended by the language used, when he was accused of using "unprofessional language" by Sean Hoare on his last farcical performance in Oriel Park when awarding two dubious penalties to Bray.

A straight red for something said would be quite unusual, no?

Was there any bit of shoving or something?

In other news - a win! Our first in four months not against Athlone (throwing games/utter ****e), Waterford (bit weird) and Charlton (even weirder)

Georgie Kelly missed a penalty and hit the bar with the rebound when scoring would have equalled our goals-in-a-season record (15)

Shocking result for Pats. Even down to 10 men you shouldn't be shipping six goals. We've had a decent run up to last night, so I'm hoping we can get ourselves back on track and do enough to stay up. Whether there is enough character in this squad is the worry.
Out for a spell, got neglected, lay on the bench unselected.

Bizarre changes by Pats in the second half though. I couldn't keep up with the numerous changes Buckley made to the formation. It is a wonder it was only six goals.

I would have expected Buckley to go for damage limitation the second half, as goal difference may be vital. If ever there was a half to park the bus, that was it.

By the way, I thought Pats were playing good stuff until the penalty. They were struggling with Dundalk's width and that would have only got worse as defenders tired. However, Pats looked dangerous from set pieces and on the break.

Just saw a replay of the penalty incident on the RTE player. Looks stonewall, I'm not sure why McKell didn't give it straight away.

Actually, I do know why. He's shyte.

I'm convinced we are waiting to play dundalk to win the league. Poor from us last night though. Never really kicked on after pulling one back. God I just want to get this over the line

Really enjoyed the limericks commentary on the game last night. Harps so lucky to get the 3 pts but we need a bit of luck to go our way

Dundalk were excellent last night, especially in the second half, we looked like scoring at almost every attack, great quality on the wing particularly by Duffy on the left and finally Connolly on the right who has taken time to blend in, nice finish too with his first goal for the club.

I honestly think if Cork had even 7 points less they would be in real danger of blowing the league, the have enough points though to win it, but no doubt who is finishing the season in the better form.

Pats were actually ok for the first half hour or so, but they are right back in trouble now, and they certainly didn't need to add 6 goals to their deficit.

I have no doubt Cork will fall over the line. The gap is too great.

It is such a strange season. A team that was completely dominant and built up a massive lead now looks very average.

In the LOI, we are used to teams being unrecognisable from one season to the next. But within the same season???

If we play like we have recently and Cork do likewise then the league won't be won that night.

Pretty common I think. Bray last year went from brilliant to awful and have done something resembling a mirror image this year. Limerick seem to specialise in wild variation. My first year watching Harps back in the mid nineties we were bottom at one stage but rallied to end up in playoffs.

Yeah, I suppose. Not the league winners though.

Not very often a team loses 3 key players(1 injured) in the middle of the season either.

That's true for sure. Ye have been exceptional the last few weeks, our massive goal difference has been whittled down to just 6 from ye as well.

That is true, and I doubt Maguire and O'Connor would have been allowed to leave had the league not been all but wrapped up.

What I want to know is when cork do clinch the title will their remaining players have the honesty and self awareness to post their medals to Sean Maguire or will some of them try to claim that they earned them on their own merit?

Genuine question btw now, I don't want any "lulz Limerick r useless" type replies.

This goes to the heart of a teams character afterall.

I think its fair to say every league winning side can point to one player in particular that contributed more than the rest and was probably the difference between first and second, Hoban (2014), Towell (2015) Horgan (2016), Maguire (2017), before this it was Fagan (2013), not sure who from Sligo in 2012, possibly Quigley, Twigg was the main man with Rovers in 2010 & 2011.

Cork are in poor form there is no doubt about that, but they have done enough to win it, their options upfront look very limited though.
#DundalkFC - First Irish club to win an away game in Europe (1963), first Irish club to win points in a group stage in Europe (2016).
