    Cabinteely

Merited win by Wexford in Ferrycarrig tonight and the threepoints takes them off the bottom, at least for the moment. Wexford began with Danny, Craig, Ross, Owen, Sean, Danny, Crokey, Mikey, Dean Kelly, Dean George and with Aaron Dobbs up front. Everything went right for Wexford on the night and it started on five minutes when a Wexford defender knocked a clearance onto his own goal-post but it stayed out. Cabinteely had started well with Ryan Swan prominent despite the very close attention being paid to him by both Ross Kenny and Owen McCormack at the back for Wexford. However, Cabinteely looked vulnerable in the air at the back and it started to show on seven minutes when a header by Crokey pulled a good save from Jake Kelly in the Cabinteely goal at the expense of a corner. Three minutes later, Crokey buried a great volley from 25 yards out after the ball broke to him from a Wexford cross into the box and Wexford were a goal ahead. Ross Kenny then got a yellow for a pull-back on Ryan Swan before, just after the half-hour, Wexford benefitted from more vulnerability in the air at the back by Cabinteely when Ross Kenny flicked on a trademark long-throw by Craig McCabe to find Crokey about eight yards out from goal and he couldn’t miss from there for 2-0 to Wexford. Danny Bolger then saved with his feet a shot along the ground by Cory Galvin of Cabinteely. Right on the half-time buzzer, Cabinteely had a dangerous free which hit the wall and Wexford retained their two-goal lead going into the dressing-rooms for the break.

Second half began with a good save by Danny Bolger to push away a curling effort by Evan Galvin for Cabinteely. Wexford generally sat back for a lot of the second period but nothing went right for Cabinteely in the final third of the pitch. Wexford’s Sean Hurley hit the near post with a free from wide left with just before the hour mark and Wexford’s Conor Sutton came on in place of Crokey who limped off. Ross Kenny then blocked a shot with his head and Andy O’Connor came on in place of Dean George to help shore up Wexford’s left wing. As the game entered the final ten minutes the ref awarded Cabinteely a peno when Ryan Swan was impeded in the act of volleying from close in. However, Danny Bolger, who impressed greatly on the night got a firm right hand to knock away Marty Waters low shot from the spot. Wexford then coasted home to get the valuable and much-needed three points for the home side. Good overall performance with Owen McCormack, Ross Kenny, Mikey Byrne and Thomas Croke being the pick of the bunch. Maybe, 200 at the game.
