Draw a reasonable result in Ferrycarrig tonight as both sides came close to scoring but neither could get the all-important goal. Both sides had agreed to proceed with the game with Wexford having lost three players to the University Games in Taipeiand Galway two players. Then Rianna Jarrett apparently got a call at 11.30 last night to say she was needed for Taipei but that the plane was leaving Dublin at 9.30 am this (Saturday) morning so Wexford had lost four players. Wexford manager, Laura Heffernan, went with Sophie, Nicola, Jess, Lolly, Lauren, Linda, Kylie, Becky, Orla, Emma and with Edel Kennedy up front. First half was fairly even and had relatively few chances. After two early Galway corners, a good delivery from a corner by Emma Hansberry found Kylie Murphy at the back post, but her header was blocked on the Galway goal-line. On 35 minutes, a shot by Wexford’s Lauren Dwyer was pushed round the post by Tina Hughes in the Galway goal. Rachel Baynes then got a yellow for a foul on Linda Douglas just as she was going into the Galway penalty area. With a minute to go in the half,a Galway free header at the far post was misdirected wide and half finished 0-0with both defences dominating.

Wexford upped the tempo in the second half and, on five minutes, Edel Kennedy had a volley a yard wide. Wexford then got a couple of dangerous crosses into the box but nobody could finish before, on 21 minutes, Emma Hansberry smacked the crossbar from a free and again nobody from Wexford could convert the rebound. However, Galway had their own chances after that and, midway through the half, Sophie Lenehan did really well in the Wexford goal to push away a powerful Galway goal-bound header. Wexford then had another header cleared off the Galway line before Sophie Lenehan did well to prevent a Wexford defensive miskick from hitting the net. Midway through the half, Katrina Parrock had come on in place of Edel Kennedy and shown glimpses of real ability especially with the ball at her feet. So 0-0 at full-time with Galway’s defensive line impressing together with Aisling Meaney up front while Linda Douglas, Emma Hansberry, Lolly Conlon, Jess Gleeson and Sophie Lenehan impressed for the home side. Would expect a lot of further twists and turns before the destination of the league title is decided.
