John Delaney - FAI ready to make case to Government for major LOI investment

    https://www.thesun.ie/sport/football...ue-of-ireland/

“We expect to make the case to Government on the basis of 20 credible plans and the overall plan for the league. It’s important, you look at Dalymount Park, you look at Glanmire (Cork City’s in-development training ground), you look at Finn Harps, you look at all the different facilities that we’re developing with the clubs, then Government support is of course important.“When we get 20 credible strategies we’re in a position then to approach all the stakeholders about the next step in the league, which is really important to the association, the clubs and anyone that cares about the league.

Interesting to see what comes of this, if anything. Little in the way of solid information, but if genuine, then this could be really interesting going forward.

Civil servers respond to reports. Maybe all these strategic plans will give the govt reason to support the league for a change. A few million would make a lot of difference

But he already has his little delay/roadblock in there. "When we get 20 credible plans". How long til no.20 rolls in and who decides on what is credible.

    I'd have thought that'd be Cork's.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

Cork did the right thing with the strategic plan. Had their own volunteers do it and then billed the FAI. Wish we'd done the same as I don't think LEAP were remotely worth the money.

I thought the terms of the grant meant you couldn't do that? It had to be spent with one of their recognised consultants?

Does anyone else think this maybe John Delaneys’ charm offensive to appease his LOI problem child?

That was the main reason Derry gave for rejecting it. The grant was in the form of a voucher for the FAI's chosen crowd, but it was still cheaper to have it down elsewhere.

Em, yep. Though I'd be reluctant to use the words "charm" and "John Delaney" in the same sentence, unless the words "has no" were also included.

    Offensive though, fits right in
Out for a spell, got neglected, lay on the bench unselected.

The Bray chairman was raising the very valid point of the stadium debt that the FAI have. From reports during the week, the FAI are on track to pay off the debt by 2020.

The Bray chairman is saying the LoI clubs need to know when, and possibly if, the timescale for when more money can be made available for clubs as done by other European football associations.

John Delaney was saying they'll have to discuss whether they should press on with repaying the debt by 2020 or start investing more money into football now and repay the debt over a longer timescale.

It seems set up now to be on the financial discussions agenda over the next few months.

    A Championship: 4 years - 8 first teams - 0 financially ruined. First Division '14: 7 first teams.
Opportunity lost for new clubs/regions to join the LoI family.

The Bray chairman has been offering silly money to players and driving up wages all across the league. There is nobody less qualified to raise questions about when the FAI will make more money available to clubs.
