    UCD

Decent effort by Wexford in the UCD Bowl last night but two good goals by UCD, both created by impressive UCD right-winger, O'Connor, eventually killed us off. With Craig McCabe suspended and Craig Wall carrying a knock, Wexford started with Corey, Ross, Owen, Sean, Andy, Conor, Duxey, Mark, Eoin and Adam and Danny up front. Wexford started reasonably well and Eoin Porter had a drive just over the bar about two minutes in. Eventually, UCD's better passing game got going and, on 22 minutes, Corey Chambers who had an excellent game between the sticks for Wexford, pushed a UCD header over the bar. An even better save followed a minute later when Corey stretched to tip a goal-bound volley round the post from a corner. Some of Corey's catches from UCD corners around this time were really top-notch. With ten to go, Duxey got a yellow for not retreating ten yards from a free. With five to go in the half, Owen McCormack got a header on target but Corbet saved it. UCD then finished the half with two good efforts but neither shook the net and the half finished at 0-0 with UCD the better side and Wexford working hard. Main problem for Wexford was that some of the passing was really below par.

Wexford were the better side for the first 15-20 minutes as they attacked the UCD box with some determination with Danny Doyle and Adam Hanlon prominent. Just after the hour mark, Ricky Fox came on in place of a limping Sean Hurley. However, on 66 minutes, UCD took the lead slightly against the run of play and a fine goal it was with O'Connor crossing for George Kelly to complete a crisp overhead volley into the corner to give Corey Chambers no chance and 1-0 to UCD. Wexford responded with three corners of their own and Danny Doyle nearly scored when a chance which came quickly to him was prodded a yard wide. With fifteen minutes to go, Thomas Croke came on in place of Eoin Porter. Immediately after this substitution, UCD made the game safe when another good cross by O'Connor was headed home by McClelland for 2-0 and UCD coasted home from then on with late Wexford sub, Liam Donnelly, having one last-gasp chance to notch a goal for Wexford when he had a shot blocked for a corner. Wexford are slowly improving and it's now a very young side so the impression is that the core fans are prepared to give them as much time as they need. 2-0 to UCD at full-time.
