To be fair, your team has nothing to gain from them doing badly either as Limerick haven't ever been in contention for Europe.

It's not about gaining its about not falling further behind.

I really struggle with how people struggle with this point. It's so obvious to anyone using even the tiniest bit of logic.

i can see your logic, but i think your decision is based on 20% logic, and 80% pettiness!

I don't think your point about falling further behind actually holds much water at all.

When Rovers qualified for the EL groups a few years ago they didn't go on to dominate Irish football. If anything they actually regressed, but that achievement was great to promote our league, and dare i say, it may have given confidence to other LOI players that they could achieve something similar. Imho, it did far more good for LOI clubs than bad.

Even Dundalk, with their massive cash windfall from last year are no further ahead of Limerick now than they were this time last year or the year before.

If a LOI side manages to gain a big financial payday from Europe, the money will most likely go to towards long term infrastructural improvements on grounds, training facilities, underage structures and other non-first team related activities, which are sorely needed at almost every club. Every LOI club could probably spend a few million quid on these areas just to bring them up to an acceptable standard, and they'd be no further ahead of the pack.

Not one club in the league gained a whit from Dundalks exploits in Europe bar Dundalk. Look at the attendances and you'll find this is an actual quantifiable fact. The idea that Dundalk beating Sparta tractograd gives a big boost to the league with Joe public exists solely in the minds of league of Ireland fans. It has no basis in reality.

I would disagree with you LTID on Dundalk and other teams benefiting. Any success improves pitches/facilities/profile. Our team has a lot of good players from outside the league this year, would we have them all if Dundalk didn't go on their run last year and elevate the profile of the league with non Irish players?

Any success improves facilities? Were you in Dundalk lastnight? If so please tell me what you found improved?

And yes we would have the players we have been getting players from outside the league before Dundalk ever did anything in Europe.

Well as im sure you know, nothing could be done until the lease situation was completed at the end of November.

Quote from club "the installation of the new pitch is the first part of a long-term strategy to improve the facilities at Oriel Park for players, staff and both Dundalk and visiting supporters. The club are undertaking a major review into the long-term future of Oriel Park. Given that our that long-standing legal issues have only recently being resolved, this process is still in its early stages."

Ya you'd expect oriel within the next three years to be one of the best grounds to go watch a game.

Like anything in this league I'll believe it when I see it.

You don't need to agree BWA, but I don't ever remember us having that many quality players from outside the league before. Robson alone, on loan from a premiership team having actually played for them, requires some trust on the part of the loaning club and player in fairness.
The pitch in Dundalk last night was vastly improved.

Its not about agreeing though its a fact. If you just wanna take the ones that were any use for example.

    Before Dundalk in Europe:
    Patrick Nzuzi
    Sam Oji
    Robbie Williams
    Prince Agyemang
    Danny Galbraith
    Axel Bossekota
    Craig Curran

    This season:
    Tommy Robson
    Bastien Hery
    Rodrigo Tosi

And if you add in the fact that the only reason Tosi is here is because of Joe Gamble that leaves us with a left back that again is only here cos of contacts someone the club has and a lad that had been released from Accrington Stanley doesn't say much for Dundalks run attracting them really.

Apart from Robbie, don't think any of those lads are as good as this year' s three. One did produce but ultimately had to be let go.
