    Drogheda (Friendly)

Due to the inclement weather, this friendly match originally fixed for Ferrycarrig Park on Friday evening has been switched to the all-weather at IT Carlow.

Another useful run-out for Damian Locke's squad as Wexford were edged out on a 2-1 scoreline in IT Carlow tonight. Wexford started with Graham Doyle, Ricky Fox, Craig McCabe, Ross Kenny, Andy O'Connor, Adam Hanlon, Craig Hayes, John McKeown, Craig Wall, Sean Hurley and with Lee Duffy up front. The game proved to be far more open than last week's friendly against Rovers in the same venue and both goalkeepers were called into action on a frequent basis. Gavin Brennan for the Drogs had a shot blocked early on, before Lee Duffy for Wexford nearly latched onto a nod-on inside the Drogs penalty box. With ten gone, Duffy, benefitting from more space than against Rovers, lobbed just over the bar when set up nicely by Sean Hurley. On 17 minutes, the Drogs put a free header over the bar from a corner. Wexford then nearly profited from their own corner but the header was deflected wide of the post, before Graham Doyle used his experience to deny a Drogs attacker in a one-on-one position. The first goal then came on 38 minutes, when referee Sean Grant awarded a penalty without an obvious appeal when a Wexford defender's hand brushed the back of a Drogs attacker who stayed on his feet. Sean Thornton put the penalty away low right although Graham Doyle was very close to keeping it out. 1-0 to the Drogs at half-time following a fairly even first period.

Second half saw a large number of substitutions by both sides with Liam Donnelly, Liam George, Mark Slater, Duxey Dunne, Conor Sutton, Corey Chambers and Jamie Fox at least coming on for Wexford. The pattern of the game was disrupted by all the changes but on 15 minutes, Mark Slater swung a cross from the left wing to the far post and it hit the inside of the top of the post and in for 1-1. Wexford then created two great efforts on goal with one shot being blocked by the last Drogs defender on the goal- line before a Drogs breakaway saw a swerving shot deceive Corey Chambers in the Wexford goal for a 2-1 victory to Drogheda. Most spectators believed that Sean Grant blew up a little early to leave the score at 2-1 to Drogheda at full-time. Best for Wexford, who looked sharper than last week, were Ross Kenny, Andy O'Connor and Lee Duffy.

    Hi Forza

The game was blown up early by agreement from both sides. Drogheda arrive late and the caretaker told everybody he was turning off the lights and clearing the complex by 10pm. Both teams had to wait at the side of the pitch, waiting on a very good U12 match to finish

It truly is the greatest league in the world
