That's a great move for him be a big step up from the level he played in Scotland best of luck. Hopefully his brother gets loan move away from Liverpool

Aiden Fitzmaurice provides an update on quite a few UK-based Irish players who are facing club or transfer uncertainty as pre-season approaches: http://www.herald.ie/sport/soccer/th...-35868749.html

The loneliness of the out-of-contract footballer is a feeling that kicks in this time of the year for a batch of Irish exports to the UK.

And while players like Jonny Hayes (with his £1million move to Celtic from Aberdeen) and Sean Maguire (once his transfer from Cork City to Preston becomes official next week) can enjoy a rise in salary to play on a bigger stage, there's nervousness about the future, and the prospect of unemployment for many of their compatriots.
To summarise, Shay Given (formerly of Stoke) and David Forde (formerly of Portsmouth) are both without clubs at present, having been released, but are keen to find new ones, with Forde feeling he could provide second or third-choice back-up at an EPL club or play as a first-choice in the Championship for another season at least. Portsmouth seemed interested in holding on to Forde, but they "now appear to have other targets".

Eddie Nolan (formerly of Blackpool), Kevin Foley (formerly of Coventry) and Stephen Kelly (formerly of Rotherham) are all free agents now too, with the latter two having been relegated last season. Jonathan Douglas and Leon Best both leave Ipswich after difficult seasons.

Stoke are willing to listen to offers for Glenn Whelan, despite him still having a year left on his contract, whilst Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has informed Daryl Murphy that he'll also be surplus to requirements as Newcastle return to the EPL. James McCarthy still has time left on his Everton contract, but there are signs he may be let leave if a suitable offer comes in.

Anthony Stokes is likely to leave Blackburn (despite having two years left on his contract there) after a disaster of a season. There was interest from Poland last season, but his wage demands presented an insurmountable obstacle.

There was interest from Wolves and other unspecified clubs in John O'Shea, who is technically out of contract, but he may remain at Sunderland. Talks with Wolves have been postponed until doubts over a potential take-over of the club are clarified.

Former LOI players Paul Keegan, Dave Mooney, Noel Hunt, Sean Dillon and Pat Hoban are all free and may return back to Ireland, although Hunt is reportedly eager to remain in England. It looks like 29-year-old Owen Garvan may also join a LOI club as his time at Colchester is no longer. 26-year-old Gavin Gunning (of Grimsby) is another player who looks set to join an Irish club, with Shamrock Rovers his most likely destination. Sligo Rovers are reportedly an option for Mayo-raised Noe Baba, who has unfortunately failed to make the breakthrough at Birmingham City.

22-year-old Dean Ebbe is intent on staying in the UK, despite having been relegated from the SPL after three appearances for Inverness last season. He's on a free too.

League One side Bury, meanwhile, have signed five Irish players (Joe Murphy, Eoghan O'Connell, Stephen Dawson, Callum Reilly and Jay O'Shea), whilst Alan Power moves to Kilmarnock after doing well for non-league Lincoln last season. Enda Stevens has joined Sheffield United and will hopefully be one to look out for in the Championship.

Young Jimmy Dunne traded Manchester United for Burnley this time last year. He's trading Burnley for National League (Conference) side Barrow until January.

Few more Irish lads in the news today.
Liam Kelly has signed a new 3 year contract at Reading.
Josh Cullen is on the verge of signing for QPR after being released by West Ham (with Cullen regarded as one of the most sklilful prospects to come out of the Hammers academy in some time, there's a lesson there for Irish lads trying to make it at Premier League clubs)
And Liam Bossin has signed a two year deal at Forest after being released by Anderlecht.

    Cheers Mark.

Hard to know how to feel about Cullen. Two eggs in a basket(case as they have been pre Holloway) with Manning there also but it will be brilliant if both figure. Cullen really impressed at Bradford but no fear the door would open at West Ham still which is disappointing but not the end of the world. The worry with players joining big squads like QPR in the Championship is that things don't go their way and the only way is down...

according to various links on twitter, Cullen's been offered a one year extension to his contract, the QPR link is only on loan, and he's also linked with a loan to Bolton

There are various reports from Sep 2015 saying he either signed a 3 year contract so it's unlikely he's out of contract, and it would be hard to release him also. That's not to say they haven't offered him to other clubs.

That's OK - I believe Everton had recently signed a striker so opportunities were likely to be limited, so a permanent deal at a League One club is probably a good place for him to start his senior career - hopefully he can break into the first team fairly quickly, as their current strike force seems a little underwhelming, with one experienced Welsh international and a couple of younger players with ten league goals between them

A 20 year old journeyman! Third club in the U.K. Hope he finds first team football here and pushes on and back up.

Ooh, that's a long way up from there - surely at this point a return home to a LOI club to get first-team experience should have been a viable option.
