What you are saying Nigel is that ending up at Finn Harps broke their spirit, broke their will to make it as a footballer. Ending up at Finn Park was the end of the line.

Well, in fairness, who could blame them? Once you play on the hallowed turf of Finn Park, there's just nothing more to do in football.

Daryl's younger brother Colm, who plays for Galway United, talks to The42.ie about his three brothers, all of whom are involved in football: http://www.the42.ie/colm-horgan-galw...37359-Apr2017/

19-year-old goalkeeper Kevin took the same path but signed for Shamrock Rovers back in December. Then there’s promising midfielder Christopher, who was added to Galway’s U19 ranks at the start of this year.

Horgan could be just tired. To the best of my knowledge, he hasn't actually had a proper post/pre-season break since the period between the very end of October of 2015 (when the 2015 League of Ireland season ended) and the beginning of March of 2016 (when the 2016 League of Ireland season commenced). The 2016 League of Ireland season ended in the final week of October of 2016, but due to his Europa League commitments with Dundalk, he still had games - and exceptionally competitive ones at that - right through until the 8th of December, 2016. He signed for Preston then on the 1st of January, 2017 and has had to keep active and match-fit since without any prolonged period of rest.

(The post of elroy's quoted above was originally posted in the 'Sean Maguire' thread, but I thought my reply would be more appropriate in this thread.)

Horgan wants to play in every game despite 17 months of non-stop football.

Was very impressed with his performance against Mexico. Until Hoolahan came on he was the only one who did anything constructive with the football. When he did get possession (four or five times) he was quite a handful for the Mexicans and found a team mate in an advantageous position all but one time as far as I remember. Think he has a bright international future ahead of him.

Looks like we were watching different games. I thought he was very poor against Mexico albeit so was everyone else. The only bright note you could take from that match was the fact that we actually scored a goal.

I thought Horgan and Christie stood out in the first half particularly. Not a huge deal to rave about, but they were two of the better performers in a team that was set up poorly and played poorly overall.

I guess we'll agree to disagree. No argument with you about the team playing poorly - at times they were as bad as I have seen in decades.
But credit where it is due. Horgan put his foot on the ball more than once and actually stood out as someone who can play constructive football.

Video of Daryl Horgan's late assist for Callum Robinson earlier tonight: https://streamable.com/q8376

Horgan came on as a sub and Robinson's goal clinched a 2-1 victory for Preston away to Hull.

Preston fans on Twitter seemed very impressed with Horgan's performance: https://www.balls.ie/football/daryl-...st-hull-374461

Hopefully, he'll see more game-time now as a result.

Think I heard or read somewhere that Preston have the best defensive record in the Football League. Are Boyle and O'Connor fit & available because they don't seem to even make the match day squads? Not much chance of that changing with Preston going so well, unless there are injuries. Maybe even Cunningham might have his work cut out to get back in when he returns. On the plus side Browne seems to have become a more regular starter.

Edit - they had the joint best defensive record in the Football League before last night. Scunthorpe in League One have now conceded a goal less (three to Preston's four).

Good to see. After very promising start, vibes weren't great in recent months. A type of player we could really do with developing into a regular championship starter.

I agree. I always watch out for Daryl's status every Saturday. Has made depressing reading over the last couple of months with his appearances being few and far between. Delighted for him after yesteday's goal. Hopefully he can kick on now.

Just signed for Hibernian on a three year deal. I think he'll do well in Scotland.
