    WYW v Kilkenny

Facile win for WYW in a windy Ferrycarrig tonight as they comfortably disposed of near-neighbours, Kilkenny, in the South-East derby. The notable selection by Gary Hunt was the retention of Sophie Lenihan in goal as Gary went with Sophie, Nicola, Jess, Chelsee, Linda, Rachel, Becky, Emma, Aoibhin and with Maria and Claire up front. WYW took a while to make their class and additional fitness tell, but became more dominant as the game went on. First goal was awarded to Linda Douglas on 21 minutes when her header back from the far post was deemed to have crossed the line before Claire O'Riordan got her touch. Earlier, WYW's Sophie Lenihan had made a decent catch from a free by Suarez of Kilkenny. On 34 minutes, Claire made it 2-0 when a cross by the excellent Linda Douglas was finished to the net. WYW finished the first half with a number of chances and eventually made it 3-0 with Claire heading home a corner. 3-0 at half-time and WYW looking very comfortable.

WYW added an additional four goals in the second half as their domination became total. On 4 minutes, Linda showed great pace down the right to make a cross for Maria Delahunty who knocked it home for 4-0. It was 5-0 on 57 minutes as Claire got her hat-trick by completing good work by Aoibhin Webb and then 6-0 and four for Claire O'Riordan on the hour mark when she kneed home a corner by Emma Hansberry. Final goal and 7-0 came with eight minutes to go when Emma Hansberry delightfully chipped over Murphy in the Kilkenny goal for a final score of 7-0. Sophie Lenihan had had her only good save of the game in this second period when she pushed a decent Kilkenny effort round the post for a corner. In addition to the goals WYW created many other good opportunities but some decent goalkeeping by Murphy kept the score down. Substitutions in the second period for WYW were Orla Casey, Leanne Tumelty and Sinead Gaynor all making their WNL debuts, I think. Wexford will have more difficult tests ahead in what looks like a very close contest for this year's league. 7-0 at full-time.
