Quite. I'm sure adding to Dundalk fixture chaos didn't come in to it at all.

Excellent bit of irony tonight. Craig Rodden served a suspension in the 20 minute game in Sligo against Harps on Saturday that was abandoned. He'll likely be suspended for the refixed game again after being sent off tonight against Dundalk.

If Cork hadn't of postponed they could of been 2 points ahead of dundalk (I beleive cork will win all their games against us) going into their harps match but now find themselves 7 behind with one less played. Cork have a squad of 25 and are well able to cope without maguire or oconnell for that weekend

I find it baffling that Cork would voluntarily add to their own fixture schedule.

100% untrue. Had Rogers played last night and for arguments sake, McMillan happened to be involved last night too, I would expect dundalk to seek a postponement. My first thought wouldn't be oh dundalk did that intentionally to disrupt us. We got our games postponed and during that time dundalk have managed to go 7 points clear, now it's up to us to reel them in if possible and we have a better chance of that with O'Connor and Maguire to call upon

Omfg how is this still going on. Cork decided not to play effectively a league decider without 2 of their better players ...how is this still a conversation ffs. What is the o posing view ? That they should have gone ahead with a weaker team risked pis sing away the league because it would have been more convenient for dundalk ?? Please let this end

Huge win for Dundalk last night, now there is a chance to go 10 clear on Tuesday night, more games played but its points in the bank. I think its fair to say the FAI Cup match is the lowest priority, I would expect no one who started last night to be involved.
#DundalkFC - First Irish club to win an away game in Europe (1963), first Irish club to win points in a group stage in Europe (2016).

Whatever about O'Connor surely Cork have another penalty taker to have filled Maguire's boots!

Those were two very tricky away ties and to have banked 6 points was a real boost as I wasnt at all confident in getting the 2 wins. Get the 3 points against Harps and it is a job well done in this little run of games. Rotate the squad for the cup game even if it risks being knocked out is a must really - whats the point in a squad if it isnt used with so many games!

Well I assume Cork had the Dundalk game postponed so they wouldn't find themselves seven points behind in the table by the end of the week. But they've ended up there anyway.

Again, no. We also had another game postponed. We could even be 10 points behind before we even play again.

What you would class as a backfire would be if we had played both those games without the two lads and lost, we'd be left thinking what could've been if we had them.

Christ I hope we win the league because if we miss out again I'm sure this whole debacle will be put down as the reason that we didn't, even though the real reason we are 7 points behind is because we dropped 5 points in our two games in hand.

If Cork do not win the league, it will be for the same reason as why they failed in 2014 and 2015 - not enough points over the course of 33 games.

That said, Cork have an excellent chance to bridge the gap on Dundalk with the current level of fixture congestion and European distraction. Ladbrokes or Coral will give you 13/5 on Cork - it is an excellent value bet

The European hangover that resulted in 2 points from three games in mid August did serious damage.

Cork had a chance, the question is whether they will get another.

Looking at Dundalk's fixture congestion and their greater numbers of injuries this season, I'd be surprised if they didn't.

The reservation I have about Cork is whether they have the mental strength to take these chances. There is a brittleness about them, that I don't detect in Dundalk.

3 goals, an assist and man of the match. Yeah we wouldn't have missed him at all.

I've been around here a while and I think this might actually have become the most tedious thread I've ever come had the misfortune to have found myself reading.
The ball is round and has many surprises.
