They've still only been included in their club's academy squads so I wouldn't think they're quite worthy of an individual thread just yet! Even if it is a senior club competition they've been invited to participate in.
Individual Threads
Single Threads
Throwing this one out there for public discussion. Last night's EPL Trophy games saw first appearances for Shane Griffin, Josh Barrett, Ryan Sweeney, Dylan Watts, Conor Ronan, Tom Holland, Daniel McKenna, Declan Rice, Thomas O'Connor, Robert McCourt, Zachary Elbouzedi, Des Hutchison and Jay Molumby in the competition, although they've all played for their respective clubs at U23/Academy level this season.
The question is, does each player deserve their own thread, as is currently the case with players making their first appearance at senior club level, or should they all be bundled into one U23 level thread?
I'll let the poll run until the end of the week and abide by the poll results at that point
They've still only been included in their club's academy squads so I wouldn't think they're quite worthy of an individual thread just yet! Even if it is a senior club competition they've been invited to participate in.
It's not even sure if the Trophy format is going to continue beyond this year (lots of lower league clubs unhappy about the Academy teams joining, and a protest/boycott was doing the rounds on social media), so this could well be a one-off.
I think one thread for those kind of players is ok.
Can the Single Threads option be changed to "Single Thread" or "A Single Thread"? It kinda reads like they're the same thing.
I'm for them not getting individual threads until they make a senior first team appearance.
DID YOU NOTICE A SIGN OUTSIDE MY HOUSE...?
Slightly off topic but I would be in favour a sub forum in this forum just for players, just think it would be a lot more aesthetically pleasing instead of seeing a mix of player, match and other threads.
Should be less of an issue now with the match threads getting archived to a different forum surely?
*Mateusz Hewelt kept a clean sheet for Everton as well.
Ryan Sweeney has his own thread already - quite right too having played for the Dons.............
Conor Shaughnessy, younger brother of Joe Shaughnessy, has signed for Leeds after being released by Reading.
ok, that's a pretty resounding result - one single thread for the U23 players until they get a place in a senior team matchday squad
one or two threads have already been started, and I'll leave them alone but from here on, any new threads for players in the U23 sides will be merged into this one
Others in action last night:
- For Brighton, Des Hutchinson played 76 minutes, Tom Cadman was on the bench
- Robert McCourt and Shaun Donnellan both started for West Brom against Luton
- Ryan Sweeney was an unused sub in Stoke U-23s' defeat at morecambe
- Liam Kelly played the full game and Shane Griffin came on after 19 mins as Reading U-23s defeated Portsmouth on penalties - Griffin missed one of the spot-kicks
- And finally Blackburn U-23s had young up-and-comer Anthony Stokes playing up front as they went down to defeat against Carlisle - one for the future, methinks
Here's an interesting one - Caoimhin Kelleher, who's still a month away from his eighteenth birthday, has been playing fairly regularly for Liverpool's Under-23s this season, including in the defeat to Manchester City this evening where he made a string of saves: http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/acad...anchester-city
