Word out on the streets is that both Newcastle West clubs are joining together next year. Also heard that it might be Killeaney and Carrig now since bally rovers turned down killeaney

Player of the year awards are a bit of a joke, wouldn't take too much notice of Nash not winning.

The truth is nobody's going to vote for the lad playing for the team at the top of the table, as can be seen by the fact that of the four junior player of the year winners only one of them topped the table. For arguments sake, if you're Carrig Celtic are you really going to vote for Declan Nash if he tore you a new one twice?

I'm going to use Creeves Celtic as an example.
Last season Creeves Celtic were relegated and Seamus Mangan was Division Two player of the year despite the fact that Granagh and AK were head and shoulders above the rest.

This year James O'Connor won Division Three Player of the year despite the fact that Creeves had a terrible season finishing fourth in the league and sixth in the cup in a season where Ferry and NCW B where out on their own. See a trend?

Nothing against Seamus Mangan and James O'Connor who are both flaking players.

Are you saying that Micheál Brosnan and Cathal Naughton didn't deserve their player of the year awards

No, I definitely didn't say that. I'm just saying that the best player doesn't always win it.

So if they did deserve it I'm not too sure why you think the player of the year awards are a bit of a joke.

I agree that the POTY selection process is very flawed. When the winner was voted for there was 4 or 5 games left in the league. This means half the teams in the league will have only seen some players play once at the most.

What if after every game each manager nominated a man of the match and passed it on to the ref. This still wouldn't be ideal but would be a much better solution than the current process.

Do you even read the posts? Or do you just get defensive regardless of what's posted? I was at a total of 3 games this year. 1 premier, 1 first division and 1 cup. So i have no idea who deserved what award. I simply stated it was a flawed system.

Are you saying the current system for nominating player of the year is ideal?

i agree with u shearer its a poor system. I cant understand how the poty can be picked with several important league games to go and big cup finals to be played. The nominees should be sent to clubs when the season has finished. Its not always going to be the case where the poty comes from the league winners. I think michael brosnan fully deserves his award, he has scored something like 25 plus goals from midfield which is incredible. Was quiet surprised Cathal Naughton won poty for division 1, he has only played half the season with granagh think he finished up around january as he left the country so most clubs would only have played granagh once.

Every system is flawed if you look hard enough for a weakness

Premier Division (Sunday, May 21st) (second last series)
Abbeyfeale Utd 1 Athea Utd 4
Broadford Utd 3 Glin Rovers 1
    Newcastle West 1 Ballingarry 3
Newcastle West Rovers 2 Killeaney 1
    Rathkeale 4 Carrig Celtic 0.

After todays results Killeaney join Newcastle West in Division 1.
Rathkeale are away to Athea next Sunday needing a win to clinch the title. A draw here and a Broadford win away to Carrig and its a playoff for the title. Atheas win away to Ballingarry on Friday night preserves their premier status while Ballingarrys ensured top flight football next season after their win away to Newcastle West on Sunday morning coupled with Killeaneys loss away to Newcastle West Rovers.

Fair play to feenagh on staying up. Were miles behind at one stage. Got nice few wins towards the end of the season

Great achievement from feenagh. What happened them early in the year? I see they finished with 17 points. 13 of those came in the last 6 games. Leicester city finished the season like that 2 years ago and continued that form into the next season to win the league. No pressure now feenagh.
At the same time I'm very surprised to see rathkeale b relegated. Always a strong b team
