Easy enough for Man United as Ajax were truly woeful in the final third. United were happy to drop deep and let Ajax come at them and just put lots of men behind the ball - Ajax hadn't a notion of how to break them down.

Not the most compelling of finals. Ajax never looked like seriously threatening. Closest they came was when they somehow managed to find themselves clean-through in the 93rd minute but it looked like the attacker had already given up and carelessly scuffed the attempted lob over Romero.

Who was the person with whom Mourinho was jumping up and down whilst hugging after the final whistle? His son, was it?

I'd opined the other week that Ajax preventing United from reaching the Champions League would have been very entertaining on account of smug Mourinho having thrown all his eggs in the one basket, but as a result of what happened on Monday, I was pleased United won in the end for obvious reasons. I think the city really needed that.

Manchester City tweeted the following in the aftermath of United's victory, which I thought was a nice touch:

They just seemed to play to put someone in off a one two on the D all night and Man U choked that space, and them, very effectively. They didn't cross it or shoot from distance or hit a diagonal or mix it up at all. It was a very comfortable win for such an occasion really.

Jose has no time for poetry he says, pragmatism all the way, and who can really argue with the results. Huge win for them.

Kenny Cunningham was right when he described it as men against boys. Ajax only rarely looked like breaking United down, and around 70 minutes in the heads dropped, the frustration showed and that was it. If they keep that team together for a few years they could be great, but will they?

United were so in control, in a way they failed to be in so many games this season, even just in the Europa League. You have to couch it in terms of the lackluster opposition, but Pogba really showed how good he can be I thought. Well deserved win.

I actually thought Fellaini was immense, man of the match in my opinion followed by Darmian, who's a bit underrated I think as he's more of an old fashioned full back (prefers to defend than attack). Herrera actually picked up the award.

Pogba set the tone early on alright, bullying them in midfield and instigating the attacks. Some careless long passes though. A good moment for him after a tough week.

Didn't see the game. Were the celebrations muted or normal for a team winning a trophy?
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Normal, they didn't hold back at all. Selfies and crowd interaction to beat the band. As somebody pointed out on F365, Ibrahimovic almost went full JT.

They did pose for this afterwards as well, where they obviously look more serious, although Chris Smalling must not have got the memo.

Yeah, Zlatan, Pogba, and Fellaini were especially into it all, though after the initial trophy lifting I noticed Rooney and De Gea, maybe not long for the team, looked a but subdued in comparison.
