Is this Dean Smith who manages Tom at Brentford the same Dean Smith who coached Michael Jordan at North Carolina? Because if he can do for Tom what he did for MJ we really could have something going here.

Have they? Just curious, if you have a link.

"I was born here, as were my parents, so I felt more English than Irish.”

    Telegraph

    Will look for the others.

I heard his father saying similar but on radio so not sure if I will be able to find the link, but I will try!

If I got hot under the collar it's because he was playing for our underage teams and taking a squad place from someone who wants to play for their country all the while harboring a desire to play for England. I've kind of come around to the fact that you reap what you sow. Northern Ireland have produced several players who felt the same way Grealish did and ended up declaring for Ireland so you can't complain; you win some, you lose some.

Field tweeted his support for Ireland. He also tweeted his support for England. There's no point ignoring the latter. You also have to acknowledge the presence of inducement. Some of the comments referred above were prodded out of him by Anthony Hayes.

"Come on England" also seems more like a vociferous statement of support than "Ireland to Win", although there is an emoji there.

The chap hasn't played for Ireland in over four years. You're right. God knows what his situation is.

Joe Mason didn't play for Ireland for a similar length of time and there seems to be confusion over his situation also.

He included a shamrock emoji in his tweet. How can you question the lad's loyalty?

"Ireland face tug-of-war with Wales for Brentford prospect Tom Field"

IRELAND face a tug-of-war with Wales for Brentford prospect Tom Field.

Left-back Field, 19, has made the breakthrough at the Championship club recently.

Prior to this season, he had clocked up just one first-team appearance, against Fulham last April.

He got another run-out in the League Cup defeat to Exeter City in August but, since December, he has become a fixture in the side.

The London-born player has clocked up a further 12 games, scoring three times, renewing the FAI’s interest in him.

Both of his maternal grandparents are Irish.

Field was capped twice by Tom O’Connor in Under-16 friendlies against Estonia in November 2012 but has not been involved since.

Under-21 boss Noel King was looking at calling him up for their first Euro qualifier against Kosovo next month.

But he has been informed that the player wishes to concentrate solely on club football between now and the end of the season.

It is reminiscent of the stance taken by his former Bees team-mate Scott Hogan — who has since moved to Aston Villa — when approached by Martin O’Neill to declare for Ireland.

While an England call-up for Hogan may be a long shot, there is a more realistic rival for Field.

SunSport has learned that the Football Association of Wales have also made enquiries as he also qualifies for them.

unfortunately he has lost his place for the last 3 games since henry the 19 year old they bought in the summer got back fit after preseason injury. Not promising for his future there unless henry gets a big move in the summer

Henry's surname is vaguely Irish. Perhaps we can pursue him now that he has taken Field's place in the team.

I'd say it's a dead cert that he's Irish. Sure even Henry VIII was King of Ireland.

Is it possibly French too...? Seem to have a repressed memory that says it might be.
Hello, hello? What's going on? What's all this shouting, we'll have no trouble here!
