What is the word on Aiden McGeady - how much longer does he have left on his Everton contract?
Last Ladder I did at end of our Euros with current status:
1. Brady - seems to be staying unless something happens very quickly
2. Hendrick - Off to Hull
3. Duffy - Moved to Brighton
4. Coleman - staying put
5. Randolph - staying put/new contract
6. CLark - Moved to Newcastle
7. Mcgeady - ????
8. Mcclean - staying put
9. Mccarthy - Celtic? Koeman seems to want to keep him for now at least
New Entry
Murphy - Newcastle
I still wonder will someone go for Brady at the last minute. Also, despite Koeman's comments if someone offers them 10M I think they'll let Mccarthy go...
What is the word on Aiden McGeady - how much longer does he have left on his Everton contract?
He signed a four and a half year deal in January 2014, so basically two years remaining.
He's probably in no great hurry to sort a move out then. Perhaps he can work his way back into the squad.
I think the list was based on potential transfers of those who got game time at the Euros.
it was. For some it certainly precipitated a move. I think it's fair to say there are other factors such as management changes (Everton), injuries, age, new contracts
Brady not moving would be a shame. But I guess he thinks he can do a job at Norwich.
Coleman may now never get the top 4 move I think he deserves and is possibly hoping Everton step it up. At his age I kinda think it's not going to happen now at another big club.
McGeady is the other disappointment - really needs to go..
I can honestly see Coleman getting dropped by Koeman this season after he comes back. I just have a feeling he will.
He's another lad, like Given, or even Dunne in his later years, who could have done a job for a team like Arsenal at some point but was probably hindered by being Irish.
I find it amazing that Wenger has never showed interest in any of those players in twenty years of managing in the Premier League considering some of the tosh he has bought, and considering he doesn't like spending exorbitantly.
For that matter Keane, and perhaps even Doyle or Long, probably would've done a job for Arsenal at some point.
Keane has played a few blinders against Arsenal in the past.
It's an interesting point, Keane couldn't have been anymore inconsistent than Giroud, and certainly was just as pacey...
I'm a bloke,I'm an ocker
And I really love your knockers,I'm a labourer by day,
I **** up all me pay,Watching footy on TV,
Just feed me more VB,Just pour my beer,And get my smokes, And go away
Giroud is at Arsenal for physical presence in a team that lacks it. I don't know if non-British managers have anything specifically against Irish (or Scottish or Welsh) players but they tend to rate them less. Whether it's cultural or that they're just not as good, I don't know.
Coleman was (is?) capable of playing at a bigger club than Everton but so was Baines, just never happened for either and probably won't at this stage. Robbie Keane did move to big clubs like Inter, Liverpool and even Leeds in their pomp, obviously none of them worked out fully for various reasons. Tottenham are a very big club as well anyway and allowed him to flourish, so I don't think he'll have too many regrets on that score. Duff pretty much reached the pinnacle with a brilliant Chelsea team, even if it was relatively short-lived. I think the majority our players have more or less reached the level their ability deserved, one or two may have even exceeded their natural talent to some degree, arguably O'Shea, Whelan and even Walters to name a few. Given and Dunne are probably the stand out guys who could or should have spent more time with top sides alright.
The Guardian's live transfer deadline day blog is mentioning the following: "With Derby set to sell Jeff Hendrick, they might dip into the market. Huddersfield’s Sean Scannell is a potential target. Sheffield Wednesday are also interested."
Didn't realise he was doing so well as to attract the attention of two of the divisions heaviest hitters.
McGeady to Preston being mentioned.
Nice one, how bad?!
I am just utterly amazed that Brady can't get a move to a Premier League team, Hull & Burnley are the only teams to show interest in Hendrick, McCarthy can't attract concrete offers, Coleman still at Everton.
Even Darron Gibson. Does his previous form at Everton count for nothing, even as a squad player? I mean he was one of Everton's best players when he was fit - and he's been fit for over 6 months now.
I mean you even look at Shane Long at Southampton, and Koeman had nothing to do with his signing.
Foreign managers in the PL BARELY ever sign Irish players. And this is going to become a major issue in the next few years with more money available to spend frivolously on overrated players from around Europe, continued foreign takeovers and managers like Slaven Bilic becoming the norm.
The only way Irish players will get moves to Premier League in the future is if they go up from the Championship, where they can get by with the reputation of grafters.
I mean, you look at the players who are guaranteed starters and it's Whelan (32), Walters (33), Coleman (27), Delaney (35), Ward (31), Hendrick (24), O'Shea (35) and Arter (26).
Eight players and three of them in their twenties. Two of them come up from Championship - one as a promoted player and one to a promoted team.
David Meyler has started every game for Hull but I don't see him as a guaranteed starter for them once every one is fit and available.
I guess you could make an argument for McClean or Long. They have a lot to prove this season, especially Long under a new manager.

Pardew, Pulis, Moyes.Crystal Palace, West Brom and Sunderland were understood to have been vying for his services.
It's almost beyond parody at this stage how the only clubs that show the slightest bit of interest in an Irish player are managed by British managers.
Maybe McCarthy, Coleman and Brady wouldn't attract offers from messrs Bilic and Mazzarri even if their names were McCarthinho, Ceulemans and Bradi.
I doubt it though.
You kind of answered your own question there.
As for the other players you mention, only Coleman could've been or could be a regular at Arsenal imo.
Given wasn't a marked improvement on Jens Lehmann. Dunne was shy of the calibre required and Doyle just wasn't good enough. The idea of the latter playing for Arsenal was laughable.
Well Dunne was POTY four times in a row at Man City (all in the Premier League).
I'd argue he was coming in to his peak in or around the 2006-2007 season.
Arsenal's defenders were Gallas, Toure, Senderos and Djourou.
Gallas was a better player than Dunne, but I'd argue he was better than Toure, and I firmly believe he was better than Senderos and Djourou - the latter who got a decent bit of game time for them.
