UEFA Womens Champions League 2016 (in Ireland)

Fantastic news that the South East has been chosen as a location for one of the upcoming Champions League qualifying groups (as per WYW Twitter account).

Ferrycarrig Park and the RSC in Waterford will be the pitches and all teams and UEFA officials are already booked in to the new Talbot Suites right on the Wexford Quays (as per WYW Twitter account).

WYW are ranked as a third seed by UEFA for the forthcoming qualification stage; they were a fourth seed last year but finished runners-up. Gintra, who WYW beat 1-0 last year, are ranked top of the second seeds, so it all comes down to the luck of the draw.

Wexford Youths Women have been drawn against Kazygurt of Kazakhstan (first seeds), Gintra of Lithuania (second seeds) and Criuleni of Moldova (fourth seeds). One team only gets through to knock-out stages.

First match in Champions League takes place tomorrow at 7pm in Ferrycarrig against top seeds, Kazygurt. Spotted some Kazygurt tracksuits in Wexford last Thursday morning, so they're undoubtedly taking it seriously. WYW will be without long-term injuries Mary Rose Kelly, Ruth Fahy, Ciara Rossiter, Edel Kennedy and Rianna Jarrett, but they're hoping to get some game-time at least from Kylie Murphy, Jess Gleeson and Lolly Conlon. With the absentees, can't see them winning all three games, but two wins out of three would be fantastic.
