Another bad night for football in Ferrycarrig with sheeting rain virtually all game and the game itself wasn't much better with Wexford getting through comfortably after benefitting from a crucial game-changing referee's decision. Wexford began with Graham Doyle, Conor O'Keeffe, Ryan Delaney, Lasty, Craig McCabe, Duxey Dunne, Eric Molloy, Jonny Bonner, Speedy Whittle, Danny Ledwith and Spot Murphy. First half was pretty dire with neither side creating much in front of goal. On ten minutes, Clover's Blair had a shot from outside the box but it went a yard wide. Five minutes later, Wexford had a header tipped over the bar by Clover's netminder Reilly for a corner. Spot Murphy then looked as if he was through on goal, but two Clover defenders got back to crowd him out. With five minutes to go in the half, Clover made good progress down their left but the cross was blocked by a Wexford defender and half finished at 0-0 with neither side having looked like scoring.
Crucial decision occurred in first minute of second period when Clover's Vickery got a straight red for a tackle in the centre-circle on Wexford's Jonny Bonner. Didn't get a great view of it but Clover supporters thought it was harsh. This swung the match decisively in Wexford's favour as the game opened up for them and severely limited Clover's attacking options. First goal for Wexford came on the hour mark when Jonny Bonner curled a sweet left-footed effort inside the far post to give Reilly no chance. With Wexford continuing to press, sub Andy Mulligan got taken down from behind in Clover's box for an obvious penalty which was put away by Spot Murphy and, in injury time, Spot got his second and Wexford's third when he drilled a low free into the corner which Reilly got a hand to but couldn't keep out for 3-0 final scoreline to the Youths. Late subs for the Youths were Conor English and John Peare. Not one to live long in the mind but Youths through on a 3-0 scoreline. About 160 or so at the game.
