I think Jimmy McKell took refereeing into virgin territory tonight...

Jesus, Rovers are really poor, though, it must be said.

Very happy with that tonight. Should've been a few more goals and most definitely a penalty that I can't believe the ref didn't give. Some of his decisions were laughable really. Rovers were very poor I thought, can't remember any real threat from them. Think Barry Murphy was relieved to get down the other end in the second half ha

Did Rovers have a shot on target against Cork at any stage tonight?

    Yeah, two or three.

Worst performance I've seen in years from Rovers, and that's saying something. It's one thing to be beaten by a better team, but to be so completely beaten for effort. No midfield whatsoever. We could have used McCabe steaming into stupid tackles, at least it'd have shown a bit of desire.

Charlie - do you think Rovers will stick with Fenlon for the rest of the season? Change now or at the end of the season? When is his contract up?

Can they afford to sack him?

If they can I fear Bucko and Fenlon might end up swapping jobs this season...
    Here on a technicality.

Never thought I'd be calling Rovers a hoof ball team but they were very poor last night.
At least McKell kept up the standard of League of Ireland refereeing, just above the gutter that is
He could have done with some help from that female assistant who didn't see a thing all night.

Urggg that's a grim prognosis I'd hate to lose Bucko but to get nutsy to replace him would make it worse , he was one the best managers for years in the league but now seems washed up.

    Do you think so?

I honestly never really rated him all that highly even at Shels; he won stuff because he had lots of money, but I never felt he got anywhere near the best out of teams. Similar to Doolin in a way.

Grim indeed, imagine how wasted Fagan would be with Fenlon

On reflection, I would prefer that Rovers stick with Fenlon - his tactics are bizarre and the team will go nowhere under his management (unless he gets a truck load of money)

If he has to go, Doolin would be the ideal replacement - almost a mirror image of Nutsy in so many ways. A man with a big ego, bad manners and loves negative one-dimensional football!

The worse scenario would be that Buckley was attracted to Rovers - he is a decent manager who would get them playing football and maybe would get them challenging again in time.

Is there no young up and coming managers that would be able to step up? One of the things I hate most about our league is the same managers seem to flip and flop around our league.

“I haven’t said a lot to them to be honest. They know themselves. I can’t keep going in and having a go at them, you know? It just wasn’t good enough tonight from us.”

Fairly ominous stuff from Fenlon there.
I thought the 4-0 win against Bohs after losing 3-0 in the Brandywell would have them back on track too. Maybe with some easier games coming up, it can be turned around, but it'll need to be soon.
Have you ever won the treble?

What happened the last time they hired a manger who likes his teams to get it down and play?

    1. Dundalk - Stephen Kenny - Sixth LOI job (Derry twice)
    2. Derry City - Kenny Shiels - First LOI job
    3. Cork City - John Caulfield - First LOI job
    4. Galway United - Tommy Dunne - Second LOI job
    5. St. Pats - Liam Buckley - Sixth LOI jobs (Pats twice)
    6. Shamrock Rovers - Pat Fenlon - Fourth LOI Job
    7. Finn Harps - Ollie Horgan - First LOI job
    8. Bohs - Keith Long - Third LOI job (I don't remember him managing Bray)
    9. Sligo - Dave Robertson - First LOI job
    10. Bray - no manager, formerly Mick Cooke - Fourth LOI job
    11. Wexford Youths - Shane Keegan - First LOI job
    12. Longford - Tony Cousins - Third LOI Job

    1. Limerick - Martin Russell - Second LOI job
    2. Cobh Ramblers - Stephen Henderson - Third LOI job (I was sure this would be higher)
    3. Drogheda United - Pete Mahon - Sixth LOI job
    4. U.C.D. - Collie O'Neill - First LOI job
    5. Shelbourne - Kevin Doherty - First LOI job
    6. Waterford United - Roddy Collins - Seventh LOI job
    7. Athlone Town - Alan Mathews - Sixth LOI Job
    8. Cabinteely - Eddie Gormley - Second LOI job

20 clubs with 19 LOI managers.
7 in their first managerial job in the league including 5 of 12 in the Premier Division.
    3 in their second job
    3 in their third job
1 in their fourth job, plus Mick Cooke whose fourth job was Bray
    4 in their sixth job
    1 in their seventh job.

That seems like a decent spread to me 10 clubs with managers in their first or second managerial role in the league. Clubs are clearly giving managers from outside the league an opportunity. Perhaps fans don't have the greatest imagination when it comes to ideas for new managers but clubs on the whole are looking at seasoned managers as well as giving young coaches their opportunity.

In fairness I alway thought his $hels teams played decent football I never really rated the Bohs sides as great to watch though.

I doubt it. He has 18 months left. There's a new board coming in and it'd be foolish to get rid of the manager before they've had a chance to speak. The main problem is that his senior players aren't stepping up to the mark - when you compare Killian Brennan to somebody like Stephen O'Donnell, it's night and day.

Why the new Board; Is it simply that there is an AGM pending that could elect/reelect a 'new' board, or is there an opinion among members that new faces are needed?

Jesus wept! You could hardly get a greater contrast.

I doubt that even the most ardent Rovers fan had any great expectations about Killian Brennan.

The main problem is Fenlon - he has recruited these players. He is failing in other areas too - like tactics, organisation and motivation
