always found this a disgrace it shows how little UEFA understand about the smaller clubs in their competitions , making LOI clubs arrange travel a week in advance for thirty people on budget is a joke.

Perhaps UEFA regard the c €100k they give the clubs as making the "joke" easier to take?

Do you really believe they care about clubs that don't make them money?

I think that your question is moot.

It would be far better for clubs if there was more time between draw and matches for all the obvious reasons. UEFA's position is that the prize-money handed out easily deals with the potential added travel cost for clubs.

It is the supporters who have to carry the extra costs themselves

Is there any good reason not to do the draws earlier though? Why not just make it easier for everyone if you can?

Have to wait for all the European seasons to end. Still Greek league play offs for example.

Other than that, no real reason

They like to wait until all seasons are complete AND licencing is sorted out, but in my opinion they could still do the draw for the first round or two weeks earlier, even with the caveat that if Club A don't get a licence you'll be playing another club from that country instead.

That's a mess as well tho, what happens if the club don't get a licence? you'll either have to wait and book all your flights and accom or then be in a rush to change them
    Here on a technicality.

That's it really, you would still only be making a provisional booking so there isnt that much benefit until the draw is finalised along with the home and away legs which can change after the draw.

When Shamrock Rovers got to the Europa League play-offs in 2011, I thought we would see the LoI champions get to that stage at least about once every 3 years.

It's a bit harsh that the losers of CLQ2 are not afforded the opportunity to enter ELQ3. In my own humble opinion league champions should be guaranteed at least 2 rounds of European action. Anyways, it's up to the FAI and similar football associations to lobby UEFA for any such change.

I enjoyed the Cork City - Dundalk game the last night, hopefully both can make a decent impression in Europe.

    A Championship: 4 years - 8 first teams - 0 financially ruined. First Division '14: 7 first teams.
Opportunity lost for new clubs/regions to join the LoI family.

Yes, Skenderbeu were banned for match fixing. Not like an Albanian club to be involved in match fixing is it.

The case still has to be considered by CAS but I doubt UEFA findings will be overturned. In general for match fixing a 1 season Europe ban isn't unreasonable considering past investigations. Anything to increase the odds of drawing a beatable side will do; The appointment of Brendan Rodgers adds Celtic to the list........

This time last year they released the 'regional' groups on the Thursday. No sign today though, I guess they're a bit busy with the pesky Euros. Also I can't find any news of Skenderbeu's planned appeal to CAS, maybe they didn't waste their time in the end.

Wasn't that far ahead - think it was only on the morning of the draw. Certainly no earlier than the evening before.

Edit - well, the draw was on a Friday last year I think, not a Monday.

    Hm. Weird!

Looking back at the thread last year, I wonder was it just the Europa League groups that were revealed on the morning? That's how it is on the thread. And I certainly don't remember having four days looking at the group wondering who we'd get!

Or was it just that it wasn't posted here, and I wasn't looking anywhere else?
