Disappointing figure for Athlone, they'll have been hoping for better than that.

They haven't been counting the stewards and ball boys in their figures so far, so it's not entirely reflective.

Nigel the figure for Rovers can't be right, looked like there was over 3000 to me, unless as said previously, trying to save a bit of Tax

Will be happy if we even get 500 Saturday. Dark days ahead

That's not relevant to clubs in the South. Only Derry City pay V.A.T. on match tickets in the LOI

That last nights game in Finn Park? The figures released by Harps are paying customers on the night only. Always misses a couple hundred off the attendance figures.

Thanks for starting this off again for the new season Nigel, always interesting to read, and I'm sure it takes up a fair bit of time.

Not always the most accurate of sources, but the Irish Star had 2,800 for Rovers v Wexford. Any over / under estimate would end if Rovers went back to releasing official figures, I think they are available but they seem to be difficult to get from the club?

One thing to note on all attendances, a reminder on how they are broken down, this is common with all clubs in UK and I know Dundalk follow the same method.

ST figures are always included on the figure released regardless if they have attended the match or so. So only those paying in or getting a ticket for any other reason will be counted on the night, then that figure is added to the total ST sales. Dundalk had 1,300 ST sold last year, I don't have the figure this year, its not far off that, so in our case any attendance figure will start at that point, then sales or tickets issued on the night added to it.

I have seen posts from fans saying 'this figure does not include ST' etc, I don't think that is correct and most clubs would have included the ST figure when releasing the official attendance.

I know that Dundalk have always counted them, as far as I know, Bohs don`t count members/season ticket holders who do not attend

2,353 was the official figure from the game.

I think its the most accurate way of getting a figure as anyone with a ST is likely to attend most matches, besides not including ST sales in a figure released makes little sense, as you are under reporting the figure, and for clubs with larger ST numbers, the figure will be well under stated.

This is obviously not the case for FAI Cup games when ST's are not valid.

If they aren't attending then why should they be counted in the attendance? Surely just counting every person is the easiest way to know the total attendance?

ST's used to be scanned in oriel park, not anymore, you just display and walk past, so they only count tickets sold or issued on the night. I think anyone having a ST would miss very few games, I missed one home last year and none the year before, so it would be a high percentage going to all games, holidays obviously the exception.

It probably would make for a more accurate figure if every single person is counted but I'd say the figure DFC issue is usually very close to the actual crowd in attendance.

Munster count season tickets and 10 year tickets for every game, even if they don't attend. The last match in Thomond park had around 6,000-7,000 but they reported 14,000.
