I've heard of him at least! Was the Spanish manager during Euro 88. My first sticker album collection.

Interesting trivia I saw on Sportsjoe:

Name the Irish players who played top flight football for the clubs below and were not capped:

I think I know the Coventry, Sheff U and Reading players.

    Coventry City (1992 to 1999)
    Middlesbrough (1996 to 2003)
    Sheffield United (2006/07)
    Sunderland (2007 to 2010)
    Man City (2003 to 2006)
    Reading (2012/13)
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Not capped during that time or never capped at all?

    I'd go with...

    Willie Boland (Coventry)
    Jason Gavin (Boro)
    Geary? Full back? (Sheffield Utd)
...gonna keep thinking on the rest...

I had Jay Tabb for Reading and some other friends came up with Roy O'Donovan for Sunderland and Willo Flood for Citeh.

Well done, although I have to admit I thought the answer to the Coventry one was Michael Doyle but the years were out plus he got one international cap against Holland.

Coventry City (1992 to 1999) - Willie Boland
    Middlesbrough (1996 to 2003) - Jason Gavin
Sheffield United (2006/07) - Derek Geary (also played for Wednesday)
    Sunderland (2007 to 2010) - Roy O'Donovan
Man City (2003 to 2006) - Willo Flood
    Reading (2012/13) - Jay Tabb

Only reason I knew about Boland was because I used to collect the stickers back then (panini probab of all the premier league clubs and each one had info on each player including their country and I remember being shocked that Boland was Irish and that I'd never heard of him. Was apparently a very nice player too and a bit of a cult hero. Kind of tracked his path after that.

I was sure Jason Gavin had a full international cap for Ireland until I looked into it. Seems he only went as far as under-21s. That's my random trivia for the day so.

Michael Reddy is another to have played EPL for sunderland without winning a cap. I'd say we could come up with quite a list.... Fahey, Jay O'Shea, Lee Power....

This is a real nerdy one, What was the only fixture in the English football league (All 4 divisions) that was never played?

Not sure what you mean here?

Is it match-ups? But there must be lots of those - Burton or Fleetwood can hardly have played everyone by this stage.

Is it a final league table somewhere that showed a match as played but it never was? Middlesbrough v Blackburn (?) from the late 90s maybe? Boro refused to travel and got awarded a 3-0 defeat for their pains. Has that really never happened before though?

Otherwise, a bit of clarity maybe?

    OK, sorry for the ambiguity.

It was a fixture that was never fulfilled during the season and the final table had both teams one game less than the others.

In that Middlesbrough/Blackburn situation, the match was technically postponed and was played at later date.

    Hmm.

Did Accrington or Maidstone leave the league (bankrupt) with one game unplayed?

Stanley resigned after 33 games in the 1961-62 season:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1961%E...ootball_League

At that stage there were the following fixtures left to play:

    Accrington Stanley v Doncaster Rovers,
    " v Exeter City
    " v Gillingham
    " v Hartlepool
    " v Southport
    " v York City

    as well as away at:

    Chesterfield
    Hartlepool
    Mansfield Town
    Millwall
    Southport
    Workington
    Wrexham

Their results were all expunged - same as in 1992, when Aldershot also went bust mid-season. So I don't know if that really counts?

You guys really testing me about this question.

I might as well just tell you the answer, It was Scunthorpe United v Exeter City in the 1973/74 Fourth Division.

A bit more mainstream than The Boss's teaser, but Gareth Bale can become the sixth player to win the Champions League in his hometown this weekend, can you name the other five?

(Warning: The answer is readily available on the Sky Sports website so be honest ).

And on the UEFA website, where I already saw the answer.
