I don't the club backed Croly for any reasons of outside perception - I think he sold a grand vision to the club and they backed it, and many of the structures Croly put in place remain, for which he should be commended. The B team didn't work, but it's another of his ideas that was well thought-out but was just not feasible for the time it was put into place.
It was the Rovers Board not Croly that made and implemented the decision to go with the B team- an absolute 100% debacle in the context of the club's finances and a decision that the Board never explained in terms of what the benefits they expected from it and of course from which nothing accrued except the spending of approx €100k with nothing to show for it- one of a series of poor decisions made by them over the last few seasons.

Heary was poisonous at Bohs as a player and poison as a manager. He led Callaghans team to safety - no mean feat - but he crumpled like the cheap suit he is when he had to build his own "brand". Here's what I wrote before and it's true.

In fairness, he did lead Callaghans team to safety that season. However his first proper season with HIS signings he was poison. His results were atrocious, his selections were haphazard and lacked continuity and the style of play - which I can't comment on from my own perspective - was supposedly awful. He was detested by the time he left by most of the fans and he just wasn't a very inspiring or good manager.

Ah you'll admit yourself it was a poor squad he was working with. They got some very good results against much more talented sides, which is generally how you measure a manager's achievements at a club with a smaller budget and standard of player. That doesn't mean the manner in which he left the club and his subsequent failure at Sligo aren't all completely on his own back either. I wouldn't have him at Rovers either and I doubt Bohs would have him back even if they weren't doing well this year, but he did a better job than I think he could be expected to at Bohs.

edit: on a side note, where does the **** pants thing come from?

Don't forget the small matter of the friendly last year in the Aviva. That was your payback and then some.

And that's the sort of crap that pi**es other fans off and say that the FAI shown favouritism to Shamrock. Didn't Shams sign up for 2 years in the FD too!!

Fergal: Ya, I have them here.
Manager: Ah good stuff, well give them to this man so, he forgot his!

I'd say what really pi**es off other LOI fans is the reality that when match promoters are setting up so called glamour friendlies (Real Madrid, Liverpool at Aviva etc.) their default choice for good commercial reasons is to pay Rovers a fee to provide the opposition.

We signed up for one season in the First Div and our involvement had nothing to with anything except the Board having some never convincing vague strategic plan that participation would over time be beneficial to the club - which as I already mentioned made no sense in the context of the state of the club's finances at the end of 2013.And it turned out to be another hugely expensive og by the Board.

that's the first time i've seen "default" and "Rovers" in the same sentence in that context.

    .
Rovers weren't first choice for Platinum when setting up the Real Madrid game. They just happened to be the only PD Dublin club not in European action at the time

The FAI fixed it so Rovers weren't in Europe so they could gift a big friendly. All part of the plan.

Apparently he was dropped for looking at his phone in a team meeting, along with another player.

You would think Sligo might give the aul statements a rest for a while.

They should just blame Heary and get on with it.

thats bizarre, why release a statement for that, it has to be something more serious surely?

Pretty sure that's it. He could be apologising for his performances this season but then again he wouldn't be the only one who would need to do that.

The bit I liked was the "unfortunate headlines" reference when nobody had a clue what he was on about.

Expected to jump ship to Cork. Couldn't wait to get out and had his contract terminated last week. Put in plenty of effort but seems to be a bit volatile at times.
