    Can Limerick Stay Up??

Well lads judging by the inactivity of this board and our recent attendances interest levels in Limerick FC seem to be pretty low at the moment with results and the shenanigans over the banned fans obviously contributing. Personally I'm optimistic that the next few weeks could see an upturn in our fortunes. The performances definitely suggest we are capable of getting a couple of wins very soon, Bray seem to be there for the taking in the relegation battle and the biggest bright spark in the last 25 years of the club is only a matter of days away now with our return to the famous Markets field. I may be an optimist but I think the MF move will give us the impetus to push on and avoid relegation.

    Which performances are these?

Friday was possibly the most disheartening of the season because by our own low, low, standards we played quite well and still deserved to be beaten. You can play as well as you like but when you're carrying five or six terrible players in your starting eleven.....

Will we win a game this season? Yes

    Can we avoid relegation? Yes

But I don't see any cause for optimism anywhere.

Won the Munster Senior Cup today btw for anyone who is interested. There was about eighty people at the game. We were terrible. That is all.

If bray as expected announce crolly today then that means they have money....and players will be signed. But we are ****. We have a player, a top prem player who cant header a ball. We have a child playing at CH. We have an OAP playing at CH.We have the worst keeper in the premier. We have a player who didnt touch the ball untill the 10th min of the second half and no he was not a sub. We have a striker, who sets up all opposition attacks from his poor control.
We need 5 QUALITY players. Not junior players returning. Not average 19s being brought up. 5 QUALITY players or we will go down

Yeah, the squad as it stands is hopelessly out of its depth. The way they allowed themselves to be shown up by a team as bad as Bray is evidence of that. Today they needed an injury time penalty to put away a non-league team that had a 13 man squad. Maybe they can scrap together enough points to get a play-off, but the way things are with the club, not least with the appalling actions of higher management, lack of funds for the squad and subsequent disaster-level attendances, part of me definitely thinks the club doesn't belong in the PD. You can have all of the new (rented) stadiums you want, months after they were promised, but it means zip without results to back it up. It seems in some ways like we're all just waiting for POS to walk away. All very Blackpool FC.

I suppose I'm well on one side of these subforums seeming "Morbid pessimism/mindless optimism" dynamic, but there's precious, precious little to appreciate about Limerick this season. And the Market's Field, delivered late and deficient in so many ways (pitch, bar, etc), likely to host more away than home fans before the end of the season, isn't really one of them anymore.

I don't want to give a false impression either, because I barely make it home to Limerick anymore, so haven't be able to go to any games in a while. But even if I was, I'm not sure I could stomach putting money into the pockets of the people running the club currently anyway.

Whether you rate Croly or not, Bray getting sorted is a bad sign for us. When they tried they showed they have the players to win some crucial games. Also in our relegation mini league with Galway, Sligo and Bray, we are away twice and home once to all those teams this season, which is a disadvantage. On our way to collecting 5 points we have had very few injuries or suspensions. That would all suggest we will go down. On the other hand I think we have been more competitive lately and organised. The first round of away games to all those teams are done and we are only 2 points behind. I expect we will get more competitive and I am hoping some of those young lads make the leap. While the MF itself will not save us, if we get a big crowd to Drogheda, put in a huge effort and win, we might maintain enough of a crowd to allow purse strings be released during the window to strengthen. So we can stay up although today we are probably favourites to go down.
We need to get O'Donnell some training help on crosses, maybe we already are and it just hasn't shown yet. The kid is a great shot stopper. I would like to see Hughes tried upfront next to or behind Clarke, assuming Harding is RB. Good to get his work rate and touch on the park but not necessarily in the midfield.

We need fixing, and it isn't an easy fix.

We're not playing better than our position suggests. We're not going through a bad spell which we'll just come out of (in the way Sligo might hope to). There isn't going to be any new system where things suddenly click into place and we improve dramatically.

As a team, we are weak in too many areas. We have too many players that are just not good enough. If that doesn't change, we will be in real trouble. If Bray sort themselves out, I can't think of any other team that we could finish above.

Can definitely stay up, but just looking at the highlights on Soccer Republic last night, we won't unless things drastically change.

O'Donnell is just not up to it. How I'd love to still see Barry Ryan saving shots right next to him. Our defence don't feel like they need to mark players in the box, our midfield offers very little protection to the defenders. Our striker works his socks off, but he's nowhere near clinical enough in a relegation battle. It's fine missing 3 or 4 chances if you're getting 10 a game.

The one saving grace so far has been that any team who has come to Jackman and tried to play football, have struggled and we've taken a point off them. My big worry is we end up playing average teams on good pitches and get taken apart so how are we going to be against Dundalk, Rovers and Pats in their places?

Im struggling to see what can be realistically changed to improve our season. It looks like everyone is sitting around waiting for Pat O'S to throw money at it again and get some new faces in, but that's not happening anytime soon.

I can't see us stay up unless pat o sullivan digs deep we need at least 7 new signings and I can't see that happening , marketsfield will not attract local support in the first division.

Come July it will probably be a complete waste of money to dip into his pockets. June will decide our fate in my opinion. Drogheda, Bray and Galway in the Markets Field.

Is tonight the start of the recovery of the beginning of the end?
Just one win, please, that's all.

You never know how much of a boost a big crowd can give. I think they could get a win tonight with that behind them, but I wouldn't be hopeful of a drastic turnaround overall, Market's Field doesn't suddenly make the shallow squad much better in the long term.

Would be very worried if the game goes against them.
