    Cobh Ramblers

Deserved and welcome win for the Youths in Cobh tonight as they created a lot of trouble for a hesitant looking home defence. Wexford started with Graham, Speedy, Gary, Lee, Craig C., Jonny, Eric, Craig W., Andy and with Rocks and Danny up front. Wexford started the better on a hard pitch where the ball didn't travel at all well. After two minutes, Rocks just couldn't touch home a useful free kick by Andy from the left wing. Wexford continued the pressure and after five minutes, Cobh couldn't clear a Wexford corner and the ball dropped to Rocks who drove it home from about 14 yards out for 1-0 to the Youths. Cobh then picked up a yellow for a pul-back on Eric, and from the free-kick, Eric was allowed run to the near post where he volleyed home for 2-0 to the Youths. On 13 minutes, Danny was put through but a last-ditch tackle by a Cobh defender resulted in only a corner for the away side. First decent Cobh effort came on 19 minutes when a powerful effort from 25 yards out resulted in Graham Doyle pushing it away from the centre of the goal. On 22 minutes, Drukie came on for the Youths in place of Andy Mulligan who appeared to have sustained either a thigh or hamstring strain. Youths then came near to scoring again when Danny was put through again but Browne in the Cobh goal did well to save with his legs. Then, on 27 minutes, Wexford hit the Cobh bar with a header from a free-kick by Drukie. On 31 minutes, Gary Delaney picked up a yellow for a dive when the Cobh net-minder Browne rushed out at him inside the Cobh box. Couldn't say if there was contact or not.

With four minutes to go in the half, Cobh conceded a poor goal when their defender allowed Rocks to dispossess him and Rocks squared to enable Danny to tap it home into the empty net for 3-0 to Wexford. Cobh then rallied a bit and a 30 yarder hit the Wexford post but stayed out and, a minute later, another Cobh effort went a yard wide to leave the score at 3-0 to Wexford at half-time. First 20 minutes or so of the second period was fairly quiet as Cobh found it hard to get anything going. However, on 11 minutes, Eric Molloy hit the post with a header after a good Wexford move. As the second half neared the half-hour mark, Danny had a shot which went wide and Craig Wall shot over after a cross by Drukie found him in space inside the Cobh box. With ten minutes to go, Cobh got a goal back when Murphy drilled one inside the left hand post from just outside the box for 3-1. Graham Doyle then had to push away another Cobh effort which was on target for a corner. However, with four minutes to go, Wexford restored their three goal advantage when Speedy crossed into the Cobh box where Danny's outstretched leg somehow looped the ball into the top right-hand corner for 4-1 to Wexford. Late sub for Wexford was Peter Higgins for Jonny Bonner and match finished on 4-1 scoreline for Wexford.

Best for Wexford were Gary Delaney, Craig Wall and Rocks, while Drukie did well after coming on as a sub in his best performance to date. Cobh had two stand-out players, O'Connor and particularly Stephen Kenny on the right-hand side but overall, on the night, found it hard to get any sort of game going on the bouncy pitch. 4-1 to Wexford at full-time.
