Two more games for Setanta Sports
Setanta Sports have announced that they will screen two upcoming matches in the Premier Division as part of their ongoing coverage of the SSE Airtricity League.
The Setanta cameras will be at Richmond Park on Friday, June 26 for the meeting of St Patrick’s Athletic and Longford Town which will now kick-off at 8pm. The following week, on Friday, July 3, Setanta will show the Louth derby at United Park between Drogheda United and Dundalk. This game will now kick-off at 8.05pm to facilitate the live television coverage.
Both matches will be shown on Setanta Ireland and the programmes will start at 7.30pm each evening.
Upcoming Live TV Games
Friday, June 26: St. Patrick’s Athletic v Longford, Richmond Park, 8pm. (Live on Setanta Ireland)
Friday, July 3: Drogheda United v Dundalk, United Park, 8.05pm. (Live on Setanta Ireland)

So that'll be four games this season for Setanta, and RTE have so far shown... four as well?
Yep. Think RTE's contract is for 15 (maybe 17) from memory. 2 cup semis and the final will be included there.
Last season for league games, RTE showed 11 and Setanta 8.

RTE are great craic with their "contracts"
Much prefer setantas coverage they don't feck about KO times (yes I know games were moved but they were a BH and it was great to see a double header) and they do a real professional job of the coverage
Setanta do feck about with kick-off times, they just don't make them 7:05 with 5 minutes coverage. They actually do a fairly decent analysis of games though and I much prefer their coverage too. It's just a pity it's not on terrestrial television.

The actual game itself is usually covered much better by RTE as they have more cameras and people on the ground than Setanta. Setanta have done a live game with only 2 cameras and both on the half way line in the gantry before.
Punditry and analysis is much better on Setanta as they give it a bit of time. I find Damian Lynch to be excellent too

It is a pity they are not terrestrial. Might actually get value for having a tv licence if it was possible for them to put Setanta Ireland on Saorview! Sky make so much money on advertising, subscriptions boost their profits. It's a shame Setanta Ireland can't be brought on to Saorview, with Setanta 1 remaining behind their pay wall. One could act as more advertising for the other. Keep the across the water action on Setanta 1. Not likely to happen I know.

A Championship: 4 years - 8 first teams - 0 financially ruined. First Division '14: 7 first teams.
Opportunity lost for new clubs/regions to join the LoI family.
It might do. Setanta Ireland is free to UPC customers.

Setanta Ireland on Saorview is a possibility, but the reality is so much of the population insist on paying for TV, despite there never being a wider choice of FTA terrestrial and satellite (including all the top rated channels) that they'd probably find it hard to justify the transmission costs.
I'll say again, I just don't get RTE's live coverage. The costs are surely in covering the match, but then they scrimp on time for the analysis. So we have a highlights package that has way too much talk and not enough action, and live coverage basically all action and no talk.
If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.

Must be Duffer's debut if rte are interested in showing a Monday night fixture.
Well, you can forget about the floating fans for that game on the Monday, Liverpool are playing on the same night in the EPL!
Maybe they are rethinking things after the viewing figures of the Dundalk v Bate game...not likely!
Peaked at 237k
60k for live LoI games
34k for Soccer Republic.
Id like to know what live EPL games on RTE would be and Champions League games too. One thing though is that that figure for the BATE game is certainly useful when dealing with sponsors - not bad at all for the likes of Fyffes with their brand on show for nearly a couple of hours. Plenty of online and abroad viewers that wouldnt be counted too which could push the figure to the 250k mark. To state the obvious it does show that the CL really is where the leverage is for income beyond prizemoney!

Interesting comparison here:
The most watched on @SkySports last season in Ire was @ManUtd home defeat to @SouthamptonFC Ave 131K Peak 231K

It is an interesting comparison and certainly shows a glimpse of what could be achieved if the league could develop on a European competition front. Free to view is bound to pick up more viewers than subscription. I dont really know how viewing numbers are collated but with games on sky or BT are viewers in the pub, for example, factored in?
