There seems to have been players of totally different quality throughout their squad. The team we took on would not look out of place in the LOI. But apparently we had a team of trialists hammer them earlier that day.

Seems they had a huge group of players, playing two games a day.

We played two games against them last Sunday. One at the farm in Bishopstown where the City side won 7-0. Billy Dennehy, Dan Murray and a few others played in that game. The second game was in Blarney and was a much more even contest.

Waterford Utd 0-3 Shamrock Rovers... Three poor goals to concede from our point of view, first two were the goalkeeper errors and the third could of been prevented also. Good to have live football back.

Harps 1-0 up on Cork at half time in Roscommon. French trialist Tagbo with the goal. Harps also had a penalty saved by Cork trial goalkeeper Lubin.

Now I'm not one that takes pre season friendly results seriously, performance is key though.. but being hammered by athlone doesn't sit well with me

Athlone played fantastic. Purdy and Chindea look like they could be great signings.

Purdy's good enough to be a decent PD player, didn't settle with Longford, and TC didn't ever really utilize him properly IMO. As long as ye keep him happy, and if the Athlone team is decent going forward he'll be a huge player for you.

He has good feet but lacks a bit of pace which may have been spotted by other managers

He's very good technically. I suspect he's a bit moody though and that if things aren't going your way he won't drag you out of it. Never met the chap though so maybe I'm wrong.

What were we like today? As poor as the scoreline suggests?

Yeh. It could of been more to be honest. 2nd half ye done ok but we dominated mostly. As strange as it sounds. But i really really doubt one poor pre season game will make any difference to Corks season.

I was there, Athlone were the better side in that game. We had a game the night before, a game at 11 and that game at 2:30 so we used a lot of trialists and fringe players in those games. It was the unknown players that really got shown up in that game in the Athlone game. Losing Billy and Darren Dennehy from the starting lineup also didn't help matters from our point of view either. But at least its another game under our belt.

Interesting match down in Ballinamallard tonight, despite the snow (see below).
We're lacking bite up front, but scored two nonetheless. Connor Thompson (from our youth squad) and Ryan Curran getting two well taken goals. Bar that though, neither keeper was massively tested. Some decent passing in the centre, and we kept the ball well enough. Elding was playing for Mallards too. Seems to have lost a bit of weight and is sharper for it.

I do think it's worth point out how baltic cold is was though (that's my breath in the second photo).

Those images are of Mallards 3G pitch. Right next to their usual pitch. The game was moved because the grass pitch was frozen.
Second time I've been down at their ground, and has to be asked, is there a better set-up in the country? For a small town/village in Fermanagh of 1,300 people, they've a nice grass pitch and accompanying stands, a 3G pitch right next to it, a lovely social club, and ample car parking. On the face of it, a fantastically run club.
Have you ever won the treble?

  19. Thanks From:

Dundalk drew 1-1 in Warrenpoint last night. 3.5 months unbeaten run continues.
