    Predict starting XI and score?

Thought I'd get this one going.

    My team for Friday.

    Forde
    Coleman O Shea Wilson Ward

    Mc Carthy Gibson
    Mc Geady Walters Mc Clean

    Keane

Hendrick and Long to also play some part.

This will be good enough to win and I predict 2-0.

    Ok, assuming Wilson is out:

    I think O'Neill will pick

    Forde
    Coleman
    O'Shea
    Keogh
    Ward
    McCarthy
    Gibson
    Quinn
    McGeady
    McClean
    Keane

I think he might opt straight for Hendrick instead of Gibson though. In fact I think he might gor for a straight 442 with Walters or Long beside Keane and pick McCarthy and Quinn together.

Actually I don't know enough of O'Neill's thinking in competitive games yet except early signs are he is conservative, goes with safe rather than adventure and goes with established rather than potential.

    Score? 2-1 Scotland.

Was watching everton game. mc Carthy holding his left hammy was not a happy sight. Now just read Wilson hobbled off. Both will be big loses if they can't make the meet-up in Dublin on Monday. Fingers crossed for some good news.
Surprised you've opted for that result....

I wasn't aware of McCarthy holding his hammy. Martinez orders!

I think it's a game we can definitely win but I just think we'll approach the game too conservatively.

I think we'll win. I think we are the better side overall and if McCarthy is fit, which seems he just might be then 2-1 to Scotland will never enter the sphere of likelihood.

I agree there is a tendency to be pessimistic when it comes to MON's conservatism but he in fairness, has set out the team correctly in all games so far.

I feel like I'm turning into Doc, but I believe in Mr O'Neill.

If McCarthy plays we'll win I think. We'll go two up but naturally concede one and have to endure a torturous final ten minutes.

That goes without saying. I think the Armenia game at home was the last time I relaxed watching an Ireland game. Even the 4-0 v Estonia had me on edge.

    Of course you do.

Though I only saw the second half of the Georgia game so I will suggest I could be corrected on that. But there was no major outcry. The goal Germany scored was as a result of a brain fart. We were pretty good in most departments that night. Gibraltar was set up as well as could be expected.

I think I'd prefer to see Clark play alongside JOSH instead of Keogh if Wilson isn't fit.
Keogh looks like an accident waiting to happen.

If Wilson is out, could Delaney be retained/used?

    ------- Walters Keane -------

I'm going with the worst case scenario that Wilson and McCarthy are both out. Quinn is probably favoured over Hendrick in CM by O'Neill, but has only player about 60 minutes of football since the Germany game so can't be very sharp right now. Hendrick is in fine form and Gibson is fit again.

O'Neill saw Walters score and by all accounts play well against Spurs today, so I think he will get a start alongside Keane. Keane will be desperate to score at the home of one of his boyhood clubs.

Playing McGeady where he played him, starting Quinn and starting Keane were all miscalculations. The team looked confused as to what their duties entailed. There was no discernible strategy other than containment. I also think they had a few inexperienced players, particularly Rudiger, that we could have targeted more if we were more positive. But credit to O'Neill, he made the right personnel and strategical changes to turn the tide a little.

Shane Long scoring 2 after coming off the bench may have actually consigned him to a similiar role on Friday. Hopefully with similiar consequences.

Yeah man, they call gambling a disease, but it's the only disease where you can win a bunch of money.
